What's your Favorite Disney movie?

Hi all!
I'm just curious; if you have one, what is your favorite Disney movie?
Here are some of mine:

1. Pocahontas (It's historically very very wrong, however it's not a history lesson and if you want to know the real story of Pocahontas go read a historical book. I do know her actual story.)
2. The Lion King (Great awesome Disney movie, who cares if it's based on Shakespeare's Hamlet?)
3. Mulan (Also a true story, however Disney twisted it.still awesome!)
4. Brother Bear
5. Beauty and the Beast
6. The hunchback of notra dame (I know that's most likely spelled wrong, sorry about that..Disney took the book written by Victor Hugo and made in to a Disney movie. I would not let young kids watch this movie)
7. The Little Mermaid
8. Cinderela (Not a bad movie, not one of my favorites..but i put it on here cause it is a classic)
9. Tarzan (Good movie, however by the end I wanted to scream because Phil Colons sang like every damn song in the movie! I like Phil..but not in every single song of the movie! It has a good plot though.)
10. Aladdin (Only cause Robbon Williams is the jeany and he's great!)

The top 5 are in order from the ones I love to the ones I don't 1-5, however 6-10 I don't care much about there order.
What are some of Nser's favorite Disney movies?

Mulan i the greatest Disney film ever. Only because of Eddy Murphy though.

Nothing more on my list, good man.

Am I the only person to have seen Bedknobs and Broomsticks?

Old Disney = win.

Also, Disney made an Oz based movie. It combined two books, and two of the weirder ones. They showed it one day at like 11 PM on the Ink think they had on Disney a few years back.

Yay! Bedknobs & Broomsticks! The football game in that is one of the best pieces of film I've ever seen. It had me in stitches when I was 10, and I still laugh just thinking about it now.

Not my favourite Disney film, though. That'd be their version of Robin Hood. Who cares about the ridiculous inaccuracies - once a film has a fat chicken headbutting rhino-guards out the way, nothing can stop it from being declared a classic.

Bedknobs & Broomsticks had it all: magic, live action mixed with animation, crazy British people, a Carribbean jam session on some crazy backstreet, a real storyline, enchanted suits of armor beating up the fucking Nazis - top that Indiana Jones.

Snow Whit & the seven dwarves...primarily becuase it was so technologically advanced that no one...& I mean NO ONE did anything that surpassed it until someone figured out CGI. Actually, Chicken Little was pure Disney, though now they all are technically since Disney bought out Pixar.

Me, I rediscovered my love for Disney with Kingdom Hearts. I'd have to say Lilo and Stitch and Aladdin are two of my absolute favorites, with Mulan and Pirates of the Caribbean coming in as runners up. But I like 'em all, for the most part.

I can't believe I forgot about the Pirates of the Caribbean! That was an awesome movie..
I also remember Peat's dragon..

As for Disney being, "stupid childish crap," you couldn't be more wrong..
1. Just look at the lion king! You've got murder, betrayal, action and a bit of romance thrown in.
2. Pocahontas..again you have murder, fighting, romance..etc
3. Although Disney made this movie with picksar (don't know how to spell that company's name) they made Finding Nemo. You have angst, over protection of a kid, the loss of a wife, the loss of a kid..etc.

These are all condensed in a form that kids can understand, however adults (that are fans like me) love to read in to everything and make it bigger than it really is or was meant to be. And yet, still keep in the boundaries of the story and plot.

The Black Cauldron, is rather obscure, and very dark, def. not for young children, but a great movie.

I think that's just about it, I thought I liked Bambi, so when it came out on DVD I bought it, but of course I had forgotten a lot about it, and don't like it now.

oh, and The Little Mermaid, crappy story, great soundtrack.

It's from Peter Pan, but not the Disney craptastic version, the actual broadway play, I saw it when Mary Martin was playing Peter Pan.

the whole song!

PETER PAN:

Are you ready for today's lesson?

ALL:

Yes, Peter!

PETER PAN:

Then listen to your father and repeat after me:

I won't grow up,

(I won't grow up)

I don't want to go to school.

(I don't want to go to school)

Just to learn to be a parrot,

(Just to learn to be a parrot)

And recite a silly rule.

(And recite a silly rule)

If growing up means

it would be beneath my dignity to climb a tree,

I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up

Not me!

Not I,

Not me!

Not me!

I won't grow up,

(I won't grow up)

I don't want to wear a tie.

(I don't want to wear a tie)

And a serious expression

(And a serious expression)

In the middle of July.

(In the middle of July)

And if it means I must prepare

To shoulder burdens with a worried air,

I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up

Not me,

Not I,

Not me!

So there!

Never gonna be a man,

I won't!

Like to see somebody try

And make me.

Anyone who wants to try

And make me turn into a man,

Catch me if you can.

I won't grow up.

Not a penny will I pinch.

I will never grow a mustache,

Or a fraction of an inch.

'Cause growing up is awfuller

Than all the awful things that ever were.

I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up,

No sir,

Not I,

Not me,

So there!

I won't grow up!

(I won't grow up)

I will never even try

(I will never even try)

I will do what Peter tells me

(I will do what Peter tells me)

And I'll never ask him why

(And I'll never ask him why)

We won't grow up!

(We won't grow up)

We will never grow a day

(We will never grow a day)

And if someone tries to make me

(And if someone tries to make me)

We will simply run away

(We will simply run away)

I won't grow up!

(I won't grow up)

No, I promise thay won't

(No, I promise thay won't)

I will stay a boy forever

(I will stay a boy forever)

And be banished if I don't!

(And be banished if I don't)

And Never Land will always be

The home of beauty and joy

And neverty

I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up

Most of you are too young to remember it but the best by far is "Song of the South". The first time animation was combined with real pictures. It's about an old Black guy "Uncle Remus" telling fables, with animated animals acting out the fables. You won't see it because Disney doesn't want to get heat over "black steriotypes". Which is stupid because the Black guy is the smart hero of the show. But they just don't want to take the chance of some radical telling them that it's a prejudiced show.

The little mermaid came out right at the age that I'd really appreciate that kind of movie. My sister and I would play mermaids in the bathtub. 1. Robin Hood-I have a thing for foxies.
2. Fox and the Hound-see above
3. Pokahauntus-classic
4. Lion King(first one. Not the "be true to yourself" sequal or the overly-comedic 1 and half)
5. Toy Story
6. Mary Poppins-perfect nanny meets family who you would pull out a gun and shoot in broad daylight in front of police and be called an international hero. Plus, there's a foxy in it. Woooo. :)
7. Fantasia-musical masterpiece and classic non-musical parts.

least favorite:
1. Alice in Wonderland. When I was young, I found this to be scary as hell and confusing to boot. Most wtf moments of any movie.
2. Lion King 2. Disney's overused "be true to yourself" theme.
3. Lion King one and half. Tries to hard to be funny and the story feels poorly thought out and implemented.

Well, they tie it up and parade around with it, but I think in the Disney version they just stick it in a zoo. In the real version if memory serves they kill it to free the duck it ate, same as with grandma in Little Red Riding Hood.

I have a few...I was raised in the first Disney Renaissance

Litttle Mermaid was the first movie I ever saw in theaters that I can remember.

Beauty and the Beast...great story line

Lion King...great animation, shakespearian story line.

Destino, originally started when Walt was alive, it was a collaboration between Disney and Dali. Very recently finished, and masterfully done.

Song of the South

Miracle (I'm a hockey boy...what can I say?)

Pirates of the Caribbean. I just hope they don't destroy it with the sequels.

Oh, and Nightmare Before Christmas. The first animated movie to not be released under Disneys name.

I agree with you about Pirates of the Caribbean..most likely Disney will, but we can hope.
Just like Disney is coming out with a brother bear II, that's so fucking stupid leave the movie alone it was fine the way it was!
Disney just has to fuck with something..

Well, as such a manly man I am ashamed to admit it, but I LOVE Disney

I own: The Lion King, Pochahontas, The Aristocats, Mulan, 101 Dalmations (old cartoon version ONLY), Lady and the Tramp, Fox and the Hound, Pirates of the Carribbean, Brother Bear, Monsters inc, Mary Poppins, and Holes.

I havn't had a huge amount of exposure to the older ones (such as Bedknobs and Broomsticks) But I HAVE seen Return to Oz.

Now time for my emergency testosterone shot.

I have fond memories of seeing nearly all the "classics" in the theatre with my Mom, when I was very small.

The Fox and the Hound is still my favorite.
But, Lion King comes close.

And yet, no one else mentioned it. It's the only Disney film in the history of Disney's existance that was not based on a fable or story, but was completely original, yet was still fantastic. No other original Disney story has done that. Excepting anything to do with Mickey Mouse and his gang, of course.

I've heard great things about it, and liked the artwork that I saw from it, but haven't had the chance to go see it yet.

Lion King is also a disney original. It follows a shakespearian template, but is still an original story.

Granted, there is a theory that says there are only 5 stories ever told. so yeah:)

i like most of the disney films, they're very soothing, nothing really bad happens and they usually have a happy ending. i especially like bambi, pocahontas, finding nemo, aladdin, sleeping beauty and the fox and the hound i know about the sterotyping , hidden agendas and all that other bad stuff but i cant help myself, they're beautiful to watch. i notice no one else has mentioned bambi, dont you guys like it?
edit, except mary poppins, dont know why that film really irritates me:)

Whoa, there, Tex -- nothing bad happens in Bambi??!! Hunters kill his mother while he's still little, and later humans burn the forest down. Bambi is brutal. A perfect example from the golden age of Disney, when every little kid's outing to the movie theater ended in tears, screams, terror and trauma -- Bambi; the wicked stepmother's transformation in Snow White; Dumbo's visit with his imprisoned mother -- I still can't watch that thing. *sniff* Poor little elephant. :( Walt Disney, you bastard. Those early movies were a movie-magic baptism of fire.

Did you ever see the John Belushi movie "1941" in which Robert Stack (legendary Hollywood tough guy) played the military camp commander who nobody could find through the whole crisis because he was at the movies watching "Dumbo" over and over and crying like a baby every single time? Yep, that's me, too. I get misty just remembering it. :D

Hi all!
Since this thread went well, I wanted to ask something to you all.
As stated somewhere in this thread, I like writing Disney fanfiction. Would anyone be interested in helping me?
It would be cool to have someone perhaps read the stories that I'm working on and we can discuss them and the person can throw out ideas, give suggestions and thoughts on the story or whatever they read.
I write fanfiction based on the lion king and Pocahontas, and I know some people had said that they really liked those 2 movies.
Here's my web site so if you want you can get a feel for it:

You can leave a reply here or send me a telegram..
Thanks a lot!!

Not my favourite Disney film, though. That'd be their version of Robin Hood. Who cares about the ridiculous inaccuracies - once a film has a fat chicken headbutting rhino-guards out the way, nothing can stop it from being declared a classic.
I remember that! Used to watch it all the time... haven't seen it in years...
And Mary Poppins rocked too.

My favourites, other than those two, would have to be.... The Lion King (definitly not including those crappy sequels - that applies to all these actually), Beauty and The Beast, Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Dumbo, Bambi, Fantasia, Aladdin, The Jungle Book, Pocahontas, Peter Pan... all my "classics" that I was brought up with.

I like some of the recent ones like Toy Story, The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, Tarzan etc... but I don't see them as Disney. Lilo and Stitch was just weird. Brother Bear, Monsters Inc, Mulan, Rescuers etc... None of these ones have the same enchanting feel that the other Disneys do.

Was Peter and the Wolf with all the music? That rocked.

I really don't like Disney. They take folk tales, sanitize them, and sell them to children as silly kitsch with songs thrown in every five minutes. The only Disney movie I really liked was Fantasia and that's only because they had the benefit of classical music.

there are 350 written versions of cinderella, not including those that are only oral tradition. Disney is hardly the first to have a 'sanitized' version, let alone even the first musical version. Same applies to the majority of their stories.

I have a friend that worked as an intern for Disney world down in Florida. She said that it sucked and that she couldn't wait to leave. There were some nights she'd have to work from 6 at night until 4 in the morning..that's stupid!
I actually interviewed for the disney internship, but I didn't get it and although I was disappointed in the beginning I'm glad I didn't get it after all.

Alice in Wonderland is my favorite, hands down. Disney royally fucked up the storyline (for instance, the story that Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum tell about the carpenter and the oysters is actually told by the Mad Hatter at the tea party), but what do you expect from Disney? I do love how trippy they made it.

I'm a huge fan of The Nightmare Before Christmas (I'm guessing it counts, seeing as Touchstone Pictures is owned by Disney). It's a close second to Alice, since Tim Burton is one crazy genius. But the whole rights deal that came with it was kind of sad.

The Jungle Book
