just in case you miss me, the sirens just went off, the sky is green, and the clouds are moving....

it's tornado time, 3 have touched down just west of me, and the storm is on it's way, getting stronger. The girls are gathering blankets and stuffed animals, I got all our stuff together and am shutting down the PC. Headed for the shelter.

talk to you when I can. ;)

The idea of tornados frightens me. I'm glad I'll probably never have to live through one. And hope that you get through this okay.

Well, I dunno where you're at, but good luck from a fellow person who lives in a tornado area. Off tot he west of the capital there were two tornados and we're supposed to get those storms later tonight. :(

the worst of it just passed to the North of us, we are expecting another round of badness in a few hours, right now it's just raining a lot and hailing, and you know lightening and thunder and tree branches hitting the house, pretty normal for Spring.

The girls are still freaked out, I am trying to calm them, but with the sounds from outside it's hard.

I've had to go through one and that was enough for me. Back in 2001 I was on vacation in Mrytle Beach SC, well a series of Freak storms appeared from nowhere and dropped 3 or 4 Tornadoes right on the city, the 4th one... An F0... Passed 15 feet from me, I swear to everything that I'm not lying. But that one was so small all it did was pick up lawn chairs, damage some roofs, Toss a few motorcycles and blow out car windows from the air Pressure, I kind of lucked out, especially when the second touched down in front of the Amusiment Park there, about a quarter mile from where I was and just sat there.

Still I never want to go through that crap again. Has anyone else been in close calls?

okay, all looks good for now, I am going to bed, there is still a threat of strong tornado producing storms about 2am, so I am setting my alarm for 1:30 to see if they are still a threat then, the girls fell asleep, I let them sleep with one of the weather radios, and the dog is still in the house. It's dark outside, basically all I can really tell is that we are missing some shingles, the tree in the back yard lost a large branch (about 5 feet long) and the neighbor's car is full of hail and the windshield is broken. I hope my roof isn't seriously damaged, but no way to tell tonight, so now I have to go to sleep and not think about it.

Glad you made it through okay there Smunkeeville. Defintely, sleep first, check damage in daylight. Hopefully it isn't anything more than a couple of torn up roof shingles and some broken branches in the yard.

Couldn't pay me enough to live anywhere tornados or hurricanes make regualr appearances. Give me a nice comforting 6.0 earthquake any day.

I used to chase, unofficially, we would listen to the "real chasers" cb communications with the station with our police scanner and head out to the direction they were going, I got some pretty good footage of an F3 once and sold it to a station for $900, so that was fun, weather plus $$. When I got pregnant though I decided that I probably shouldn't tempt fate so much, and that was my first non-chasing spring. I haven't been out much since. I did go out and show the girls the wall cloud and talk to them about upflow and about why the sky was green, we talked about the dry line and dew points, I decided it would count for homeschool today so we are going to the park to look for worms in a few hours.

I went out this morning and checked stuff out, there is a hole in the roof of my garage that you can see daylight through, and my garage is somewhat flooded because of that, there were about 60 shingles in the yard, and branches and such. The hail in the neighbor's front seat is almost melted, and he has a problem, about 2 feet of water in his car, but I didn't go tell him, since he made me mad yesterday anyway. On the way to my mom's today I saw electric crews out, and was thankful that my power didn't go out last night, and hoped that they didn't screw up and it doesn't go off today when I am not there.

I was in your predicament today. Cat 5 cyclone was potentially bearing down on my city but it self-destructed into a tropical low on land - so only some wind and rain.

Wow, we didn't get any good weather like that here yet (sky looks rather ominious at the moment). We've had two tornadoes this year. No fatalities from either. First one was atleast an F3, second one was a strong F1, or a weak F2.

Knocked down some houses, took some roofs, that sorta thing. Had some damage to my roof, a tree landed on my pickup (~$5000 damage). Happened about two weeks ago, the roof has been patched, by me three times. Meh, contractors locally are busy as hell. Some interior water damage, got power turned off in two rooms since water was pouring in through the light fixtures and in one case a ceiling fan.

An ~F3 tornado once passed within about ten feet of my car, but I managed to turn it back with my supreme power of ego (actually, it turned back of its own capricious will). It picked up a neighbor's boat instead and deposited it in North Carolina.

After that I moved northeast.

Egads, we had a round of really bad ones just north of my area a couple of weeks ago, on 7 April. Seven people were killed, over a hundred injured and one died from a heart attack after seeing the tornado o_o;.

We just got sirens in our area very recently, and whenever they go off, it's absolutely terrifying :/...

I've been lucky with tornados. They never seem to enter the city, though some of the suburbs have gotten flattened, and we get plenty of rain/hail from other people's tornados. My closest encounter was when my GF and I were vacationing in a small town. We debated about which hotel to stay at overnight. In the morning, we drove past the one we didn't stay at, and discovered that we made a better choice than we'd realized!

wow...sounds like fun times! A few weeks back my mum sent me some pics of a storm that hit home. There were big tree branches shot like 3 ft into the ground. then the hail was so big it literally put great big ol holes in the garage..it looked insane.
