Good news for those of you reading this from work.

It seems that you can be no longer fired for browsing the web at work. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060424/ap_on_hi_te/internet_surfing)

Seems fair enough to me. If it's not interfering with your general performance, why should it be a problem?

I wasn't aware most of us were affected by a US regional administrative judge's ruling at all.

I am the type of person who is uncomfortable even making personal calls from work (when I am being paid wages, when I work at home I could care less)

I don't like getting paid for not working, it's like stealing. I feel like it probably does affect your "general performance" since you aren't giving your 100% attention to your job.

I guess it all depends how far you're willing to fight it. Businesses do plenty of things that they're not supposed to get away with.

But I'm self-employed so I can do this at work and only get angry at myself.

Self employment certainly does have its perks, besides having a lay-in when you want.

Mmmmm, depends on the job. In my old job, I had targets to reach, and once those targets were reached, my employer didn't care how I spent my time.

I don't take or make personal calls at work unless it can't be avoided. As for being on the internet I have to do some work online and read boards in the vast stretches of abject boredom in between bursts of activity.

The company for which I work, pays for a newswire on its intranet.

Can't have company money going to waste. :D

Me too, except I don't get angry at myself. My Company Policy is "whatever I'm doing is fine."

My universtiy's rules (I am a postgrad student, so have my own desk and PC, it's half wayt towards being a job...) state that "Use of computers for personal use is tolerated as along as this use does not interfere with other responsbilities", or to put it another way, it's fine as long as you don't browse the web all day instead of working. Oh, wait... damn. :headbang:
