The fact that people my age (30+) think it looks bloody stupid and annoying.
For all the myriad faults of contemporary Emo (to differentiate it from its underground hardcore roots) this is exactly the kind of thing that youth culture should be doing.
What, you mean 30+ year olds don't listen to bad music, and cut themselves?
Hmm... Its suddenly more enticing.

We may very well do both, but we do not have quite so irritating haircuts as we do them.

Were its roots so "hardcore" that they had to stay "underground" so as not to run afoul of anti-sodomy laws or something?

Well, we're more likely to cut ourselves by accident. You know, trimming a turkey, pruning hedges, opening cans etc. And the bad music we listen to is usually just the bad music that inspired the bad music that is being listened to today, which just goes to show shit still rolls downhill, after all this time.

Actually, thats wrong. OUR bad music was inspired by a better quality of bad music. Their music is inspired by our bad music, making it even worse. It's the whole copy of a copy thing. The next generation of music is REALLY going to blow.
Same thing with the clothes. This generation has...whatever you call that crap they wear. My generation had flannel, before us were the hippies with bell bottoms. I think the downward spiral started there. In ten years, the fashion will probably be wearing adult diapers, sandals with black socks, and turtle necks with bolo ties. Damn, that's scary.
