For what movie? If it is for any movie, I'd go with Al Pacino any day. Robert DeNiro just seems too soft.

Well if it's for comedy, I'd pick Robert. If it's for action, horror, sci-fi, romance, or drama, I'd go with Al.

Soft?
I take it you've never seen 'Raging Bull', 'Taxi Driver', 'Godfather II', 'Goodfellas' or 'Cape Fear', then.

Tom Cruise

(I only say that because if I don't, Xenu will kill us all. I really wanted to say Al Pacino, but received a pre-emptive law suit letter just moments before hitting reply and, well, I have kids to feed.)

So, yeah ... Tom Cruise.

Pacino's good, but past his prime. He was the better of the two in his day, but now, unless I want a tired droopy-lookin' dude, I'd go with DeNiro.

Well let's say when they were in their late thirties.

It's hard to say, but I'd go with DeNiro just because the overall quality of his films is much better (Al Pacino hasn't really done too many great films).

Long live Adam the Batlord! I shall smite my enemies!:sniper: :upyours:

Pacino at this point in his career is still somewhat versatile. DeNiro has seemingly lost a lot of his abilities, and has really backed himself into a typecast corner. If we're talking about during their peaks...there's no way you can make that decision. You're talking about two of the greatest actors ever. Trying to pick between Pacino circa The Godfather and DeNiro circa Taxi Driver is impossible.

I choose Heat.

Funny thing is, despite that movie having both of them, it was a bit of a let-down.

Very long.
Kinda dragged...

However, i want to say that anyone who rags on either of these two actors can eat a can of monkey crap.
Having said this, I digress...

In fact, I do have a movie script rolling around in my head, and while creative, Im not a very good writer...I know...Ive tried.

The part calls for a middle-aged doctor working in a mental healthcare facility
to treat a patient who believes he may be Jesus.
Turns out he is......and he's a heroin addict.

Mhuhahaha!

Robert DeNiro.

Maybe its becuase you didnt hate Harvey Kietel's(sp?) character enough.

The guy is pimping a 12 year old girl. ( A very young Jodie Foster)

Travis, a taxi driver, slowly loses his frickin mind in a city of hate, sin, debauchery, crooked politicians, and slimeballs, and decides to kill a politician, instead, he accomplishes nothing, except maybe saving a young girl from the streets.

Pretty hardcore, even for today.

Watch it again.

Nothing like De Niro and Pacino together (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113277/)

You have to choose one of these actors for your movie and only one, who would you choose?

From about 1975-1994, the answer would have to be De Niro. From that point on, he's slid into lazy self referencing mockery. The only thing is, from about 1990 onwards, Pacino has been worse ("Scent of a Woman"? TRIPE!).

Harvey Keitel.

Can't argue with their 70s work, but "Heat" is a perfect example of...they've gone on too far, and they have both become "stars" instead of actors. The chameleon-like ability of Bob in the 70s and 80s, the intensity of Al...has been replaced by laziness, from both of them.

So, yeah, i can "rag" on them without eating a can of monkey crap.

Carlito's Way is probably Pacino's last hurrah.

And the Hoo-ah? Godsakes, what about the bit in "Heat" where he sings at a perp whilst interrogating him? AL WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

He's become a parody of himself. As has Bob.

Robert DeNiro has more of a range, and has been in better movies, although the latter isn't especially his doing.

Robert DeNiro.
He once claimed he could play a pizza when the role demanded it. He'd play a pizza! Only one who can do it ;)

I dont know if he's typecast yet. He plays serious gangsters and comedic gangsters, a boxer, a CIA agent father-in-law, nutcases and Frankenstien.

Versatile- remember he played Al Capone and shortly afterward a bounty hunter? He put on 40 or so pounds to play Capone in THe Untouchables, then took it off to be in Midnight Run.

I'd pick him.

I'll add that I wouldnt want to live next door to either of them.
