I was about to post something about that, but I thought against it as I thought Nt meant something I wasn't aware of.

Nt is a standard abriviation on some forums.. generaly older style ones.

it is short for "note" in which the topic heading is the entire post/question.
often the same forums will use the abriviation "txt" or something similar to denote posts with actual content.

i'd start with zimbabwei[sp] (do i have the right place? that is in africa right? hehe. sometimes my geography fails me) mostly because it's citizens would actualy apreciate it.

Imperialism is to expensive. Just change the national boundaries to ones that work, ones that aren't based on european land holdings.

I think Spain and England should first reimperialise North America. Punish them for not paying 330 years worth of stamp duty on tea. It would work this time as I'm sure the French would no longer be interested in saving their butts. Tally-ho! Pip-pip!

"use force as little as possible, but when you do, apply it brutaly and without restraint"... something like that at any rate. it's a good way to deal with rebelions.. for one thing, it reduces the odds of them occuring in your other holdings. so long as, of course, you treat the denizens well when they Don't rebel.

treating them like dirt is going to eventually result in revolt no matter what you do.

Despite your argument being based on frustration and anger (albeit justified on both counts) I'm rather inclined to agree. Aside from our international meddling getting the rest of the world annoyed with us, it also increases international dependence on foreign aid. In the short term, many nations will fall into periods of famine, economic recession and quite possibly war, but in the long term their economic and social development will be significantly better off. Unless they all just immigrate to 1st world countries.

I think this is a refference to the war of 1812 when England invaded and burnt the whitehouse (which wasn't even white back then). Lots of people don't know about this particular war on account of how the U.S. doesn't like to mention it much.

Yah, the war of 1812, and the aroostock lumber war. Though the later was really an ongoing set of border disputes from 1783 to 1843.

that seems to happen most places.. the historys arn't "official" yet because no one is sufficiantly unbias.. or so they'd like us to think.

Oh, I was more biching about the fact that schools don't teach shit about the more recent history of the US, the stuff that has much more of an impact on current events.

NZ's worse.. or at least what classes i got on the subject were. we get what seems to be a highly edited version of the european colonisation.. and untill you get to about 6th form level [old system. equates to aproximatly 16-17 years old] that was about it. 7th form history was either late middleages england, or 1920s USA... the second really being pretty freaken irrlivant. *le sigh*

in all seriousness.. i've learnt more about history from watching some stuff on tv, Wargameing, and random reading that i did from school. which is probilby why i know so much about some eras and nothing about others.. and stupid little details in some areas and not much in others, and so on and so on.

Any sort of full-scale occupation abroad always comes with an utterly masturbatory price tag. Ultimately, it's totally impractical.

My impression of the neo-conservatives is that they want the glory of "freeing" a people and a ticker tape parade but they don't want to do the work required to make a people free. They want empire but they refuse to shoulder any burden.

On the US side I believe it was claimed to be about, in part, the British navy boarding and impressing(sp) US ships and sailors into the service of the British aginst the French.

depends on who you mean by "we" really.

the european nations stoped trying after the second world war. none of them were in a postion to be able to defend their empires.. and they were getting pressure from those who were still able to function. the USSR lasted longer than most [and it was an empire, in a way.]

the USA, on the other hand, as someone pointed out.. is looking for the benifits of empire without cost, so no, it never really stoped.. it just started doing it in strange and unuseual.. and often rather stupid.. ways.
