UGLY UGLY WARTS: How do you get rid of them?

Hi all!
I hope someone can give me some thoughts, suggestions..etc.
I have 2 warts; one on each thumb. I've tried compound W, it shrunk them but they aren't gone. I want them gone, they're ugly and I hate feeling and seeing them!
How can I get rid of them? I'm afraid to go and get them frozen..or worse burned off. Any well, less painful ways to get rid of them? Any natural stuff I could do to them, anything I could soak them in..
Any ideas?
Figured I'd ask..
They're anoying as hell

Thanks for your suggestions and ideas!

Go to your doctor and have them frozen off with liquid nitrogen...

Seiously. That's how it's done. Very little scarring too.

EDIT: There really isn't any way to avoid the pain. Even Compound W stings, and you have to use that multiple times. As fare as I know there are no naturopathic wart removers.

my brother used to be plagued by warts...

First thing he used was that acidic chemical, not sure what its called. It also required filing off dead wart (yuck!) and the end result was sucessful but...disgusting.

He also used another chemical that apparently burned like shit, but it got rid of them in one treatment.

Finally, he went to the doctor and had the liquid nitrogen treatment. According to him, it was the best way, both in terms of pain and efficiency.

Doctors cost money. Wart remover costs money. Be smart. Lose warts the quick and easy way. Pool supply stores and hardware centers will sell hydrochloric acid in a ten litre jug for the cost of one tiny bottle of wart remover. Apply to wart twice daily with say a toothpick and they'll soon be gone.

WARNING: Do not spill acid on self. The whole point of this is to avoid doctors bills. Do not use on warts that are, you know, down there. That is all.

Woh that's personal..anyways, hardwhere stores? Hmmm, I'll have to be careful not to get that stuff on skin..however I'm afraid for the skin around the wart.

Lick your wart every morning as soon as you wake up. Something to do with acids etc built up in the mouth over sleep. Not sure if it works but a few of mates have said it does.

If you've ever used hydrochloric acid in a lab you'll know it's very important not to breath in the fumes. If you have hairy arms you may also know how droplets can stay on hairs unnoticed until you do something stupid like rub your arm or wipe your brow much later.

I've never worked with nitric acid. Aparently it eats away at your clothes if you work around it and aren't careful. I heard one chemistry grad's underpants disintergrated when he took his jeans off at night. Not a good sign. He put the same jeans on the next day and they fell apart in class, as he hadn't realized that the acid had to have gone through his jeans at some point to affect his underpants. Me, I'd just be worred about my underpants contents.

Maybe this actually does work, but there is a reason why we have modern medicine you know. And store bought acid. And BLEH! You don't wanna play around with warts. There is a chance they can spread. Burn the suckers off and kill the infected cells at the base.

I heard something about putting duck tape on the wart for 6 days, then soaking it in warm water and fouling it off. Do this until it's gone..does this even work?

I guess. My option is the homeless/broke persons option. Personally I don't have any warts, so I don't particularly care what you (OP) do with them :p.

I'm told that by taping a garlic poultice over a wart for an extended period of time you can make it go away. That said, liquid nitrogen and a doctor are your best bets.

There are sort of "gel" type acids which contain natural painkillers in them, I've used them before and they don't hurt at all and work very effectively.
Aryavartha
23-04-2006, 11:01
Freezing them is a very quick and effective way...you just have to bear the pain while the Nitrogen is freezing it...it is not that unbearable...

Don't cauterize it, usually leaves a scar....

Other methods like duct taping, Dr.Scholl's (?) etc could also be effective, but depends on the type of wart and all....

It is better to take professional help, because some warts do spread if not treated properly and you will end up spending more later and go through many times worse of what you are trying to avoid in the first place..

23-04-2006, 11:06
Oh and another thing..

Do NOT ever ever EVER be tempted to pull it out using pincers or some such stuff...I know a guy who did that...he thought he was smart and read some stuff off the internet and tried to pull it out using pliers thinking that he can take it out by the root and it will heal like how surface wounds heal...the damn thing had a deep root and he ended up pulling out flesh and what not and lost lots of blood and nearly fainted and luckily we got him to hospital before major damages to him...:(

But there was a major damage to his wallet :p

Pocket knife+paint thinner.

The latter is to kill the root after you've cut it off.

Very, very, carefully take an Xacto knife blade's edge (as sharp as you can get, both because a sharp blade's less likely to slip and hurt you, and also because you can't even feel a well sharpened one going in) to the outer most, bottom edge of the wart. Keep your thumb perfectly still while doing this, for rather obvious reasons (a cut that small won't hurt you badly enough to even leave a scar, but it stings like the dickens).

Some fluid will most likely come out, almost a pus looking stuff, mixed in with blood. Promptly wash your hands with soap and warm water for at least 5 minutes. Repeat the washing a minimum of 3-5 times a day for the next week, being sure to move the wart around a bit, ever so carefully with a finger.

Now, the nice part about this? You make this little cut exactly right, there's no pain whatsoever, and no scarring you can see or feel either. However, if you've got really, really, big warts, or no fluid leaks out, get to the doctor. Best case scenario, no home solution I know of will get rid of it, worst case, it's something else that you'll definately want to see a doctor about, pronto.

23-04-2006, 12:23
How long did you use the conventional treatment for? Which treatment did you use? There are a LOT! of over-the-counter treatments for warts. Try those before you resort to HCl, cutting the wart off and burning the root yourself, or most of the other non-doctor-recommended treatments in the thread. Doing that stuff is VERY dangerous, and you can seriously injure yourself in the process. Try all the over-the-counter treatments, and go to the doctor if they don't work. Do NOT cut into warts at home. There's even a home wart-freezing kit someone linked to earlier. You can probably find it in a decent drug store. Seriously, can NOT repeat enough that you should not cut into warts at home, for so many reasons.

just leave the duct tape on until the wart is gone. worked for me. just make sure that the duct tape seals the area. you'll find the skin all clammy an such and eventually the wart dies down. although i still have a little something where it was. . . .

Sharp object + good hands + alchol + hydrogine peroxide = No more warty.

Then again, you have to have a stomach for blood and whatnot. Fastest, easiest way.
I don't have any scars either.

Last one I had formed was caught early. For a few days I had dug at it by scratching. After some time a hole formed on the top of the wart, to which I just popped like a zit. The root and all came out on that, I have not had a wart sence then.

Dermatologist. Fast, painless, easy and effective.
Better than using weak acid to eat them away, which is what Compound W and a bunch of the others are.

Personally, I had one on my foot, and I just cut it off with toe nail clippers and put neosoprin on it until it stopped coming back.
But if that sounds like something you dont want to do.
Just go to the doctor. One two three, and you're done with it.

No way, I used to have a huge problem with warts, and always went to the doctor for freezing. Usually takes 2-3 tries, and I had to drive across town! Doctor is free where I'm from, but still a pain to do. Then I found those adhesive strips (I froget the name of the chemical); you just put them on overnight, and after two days the warts dead and you can rub it off after soaking it in water! Easy!

Depends if they are flat warts or raised.. I had a raised one when I was young (12ish) on the palm of my hand, I used a brand new craft knife to cut round it in like a cone shape and then dug out the root with one of those things you use to hold corn-on-the-cob. Make sure you get rid of all the black bits cause they will re-grow if you dont. After I dug out the hole I filled it with some wart removal gel which stung like a bitch but it didn't come back. That was after about a year of daily filing and application of wart removal gel. Beware, use a clean, brand new sharp knife if you're going to do it and use antiseptic afterwards like TCP to make sure it doesn't get infected. Mine bled quite a bit but I was ok with a plaster over it afterwards.

Good luck, I hope I never get another one cause it HURT!

I had one on my right hand on the top. I had the doc freeze it dead, problem was it came back and bigger than before. So I ended up picking it out with my fingernails. This was in mid 2003. I now have a scar of what looks like the root still on there where my skin does not look right.

Looks smooth compared to the rest of my skin which has all those fine lines and hairs through it.

i had a wart ages ago on the top of my index finger just behind the nail. i used that salacitic acid stuff for a while but it had little effect. after about 4 or 5 years i just bit it off and it didn't grow back. i'd bitten it off a couple of times before and it went for a while but it's been gone for several years now so i reckon i'm shot of it.

now i think of it, that's quite disgusting isn't it? biting off a wart, eurgh!

i had a huge wart on my foot once too which was quite painful. i had it just before i was due to go travelling so i went to the doctor and he got rid of it with liquid nitrogen and a scalpel. couldn't walk for a couple of days after that.

Well, it's dead wrong. The only thing that MIGHT make you think they were related would be that they both cause little bumpy blister-like looking things from time to time. They are NOT related, except in that they're both viruses and can both be transmitted sexually.
