Panic!

I've been thinking and I can't think of a single horrific event that has occured after the majority of the public has predicted/been paranoid about, it. Events have happen that a few people have been concerned aboutbut never anything the average guy on the street is concerned over. That's why I'm not to concerned about global warming becuase everybody else is. I'm not realy concerned about avian flu either. So am I just ignorent, or are you just paranoid? I'll check on this thread later in the morning. It's 1:30am and I need some sleep. Goodnight you paranoid fear mongers.

World War II.
Technically, that didn't really start until everyone had stopped worrying about it. After Munich, everyone thought everything was fine, and went on their 1939 summer holidays.
And even once it started, there was a good strech of 'phony' war, where people thought it wasn't going to be that bad.
Moral of the story: Everyone keep panicking, so I don't have to.

Being told they will have to bury all of their grandchildren. That would strike me as pretty horrible.
The chief reason is that in the past, most of the disasters we've been worried about were preventable, and because we worried about them, we prevented them.
Today, we have a lot more knowledge about aspects of the world we can't so easily control - global warming, avian flu - so the same lessons don't apply.
