I'm fairly sure the moderators wouldn't do this, so please don't go asking them and causing this to get moved from General.
Would taking the top most popular debate topics (say - Bush/USA bashing, Christians vs Anti-Christians, gun control, gay marriage) and just making each of them a sticky and allowing them unlimited growth be a good idea? I always see people whinging about how many of these threads there are....

I would say no, as while some of the threads are just a n00b playing with the poll options, other threads have points to make that would be lost in the 471st page of an Uberthread.

It's hard enough following and getting into a debate when you've missed six pages, let alone 600. Besides, all the different threads may all be similar topics/variations on a theme, but they do generally take a slightly different angle.

Exactly.
And having one huge thread instead of several different varieties of thread is an overloy monopolistic, centralist, authoritarian communist idea. When you think about it. If we implemented something like that, you'd find the same problems Soviet Russia had cropping up in NS General: repression, purges, and breadlines. MARK MY WORDS!
