Luxury item: A pen of never-ending ink and reams and reams of paper (Assuming, of course, that a two person tent is not a luxury item, as well as devices for converting salt water into fresh water, and food.... Unless of course, you'd rather say that we're locked in a dreary room with a toilet in one corner, a cot in the other, a CD player, and our only contact with other human beings occurs when we're given food twice a day.)

Hmmm....

Hard hard choices. I'm aiming at maximizing time filled. Also, symphonies and other "multi-tracked" pieces will be one piece.

John Coletrane's "My Favorite Things" (the 57:19 recording off of Live in Japan)
Miles Davis' "So What"
Dave Brubeck's "Blue Rondo à la Turk"
The Doors's "The End"
Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana" (Seiji Ozawa and the Boston Symphony Orchestra)
Gustav Mahler's Symphony No.1 (Christoph Eschenbach and the Houston Symphony Orchestra)
Mahler's "Das Lied von der Erde" (Sir Georg Solti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra)
Sacred Tibetan Chant (The Monks of Sherab Ling Monastery)
Richard Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen (Sir Georg Solti and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra)
Ludwig van Beethoven's Ninth Symphony (Herbert von Karajan and the Berlin Philmarmonic)

It wasn't, I was answering an idea posted earlier...
Anyway, the first piece of music and the Wagner I'm not sure about (in part cos I know nothing about the first) butthe others I think would all be counted as one piece.

Ah, looking back I see the post you meant. :D
Of mine, the first is definately one piece. It may be an hour long, but symphonic pieces and operas can go even longer. The Wagner may be pushing the outer limits....

I would not know about music discs or books due to the selection choices I would have to make are simply too large, but as for what luxury item hmmm....does it have to be based in the real world? If not, I pick a 50 foot cruise ship so I could leave the place. :p
