Following the outrage over the Muhammad caricatures published in Western newspapers, Israeli artists staged a contest. They were looking for the best anti-Semitic cartoons. The results are in.

Well, I suppose you have to take it all with humour sometimes. But what do you think?

Here (http://boomka.org/blog/wp-content/plugins/falbum/wp/album.php?album=72057594067999377&page=1) are all the cartoons. Are there any you think take it too far (warning, some of them are somewhat sexual in nature - nothing too harsh I don't think though)?
And if not...is it about content, or about intention?

Heh, I love the jews more then anyone else (they're the best group of people, bar none, on the face of the earth), but I did have a slight chuckle at some. Others were just bad.

Some especially the ones mocking the Holocaust were offensive. I chuckled at the Jingle Jews one though, lol. I found it a bit unnerving that a lot of the cartoonists were in fact Westerners...

Hee, I thought some of them were pretty funny.

Oh, it's Jews mocking themselves, lolz. Oops. Well, good to know that some people still have a sense of humour in this world.

They are quite funny (well most of them, others I just don't get, maybe you have to be Jewish to get the “in-jokes”?), It's quite amazing that it was created in Israel, I guess it shows how far Jews and most people have come that we can now laugh about this stuff.

I just know someone is going to misunderstand it though and think it's actually Anti-Semitic stuff, in reality it demonstrates very well just how stupid and ridiculous anti-Semitic conspiracy theories really are.:rolleyes:

Amitai Sandy, who says he belongs to the "extreme Israeli left" and recently voted for the Communist Hada list, feels he's still a good Israeli.

It's the Hadash list, not Hada. Hachazit Hademokratit le'Shalom ule'Shivyon, the Democratic Front for Peace and Equality. Hadash means "new" in Hebrew.

And Karl Marx was (probably) not an anti-Semite.

A few ingenious depictions. I have to say that my favourite was the one with the historian and the Jew arguing about the interest, followed by the one of Hitler in heaven with Ghandi and Martin Luther King.

*Snickers* Well, a sence of humor is a good thing to have.

A lot of them aren't that good. The one Stalin mentioned was pretty good. And the Elder of Zion one(Joine now, circumsize later)

The whole thing is rather childish really.

Its only funny if you are familiar with the history behind it. Jews were routinely accused of what is today known as the "blood libel" throughout the Middle Ages. That is, Christians would accuse Jews of kidnapping Christian children to drink their blood and all sorts of other crazy stuff. Even today, Palestinians have versions of the blood libel that they accuse Jews of.

Wow, hadn't seen this idea. Completely my respect. If jews can make fun of holocaust then Muslims with their "don't make fun of very important things of ours, because we don't like it" can go to hell (if they have one).
For now my respect for Israel has grown considerably.

Those two (Heaven and Interest) are very good, Interest probably more so. There was another one (cbf finding a link) with the editor of the New York Times saying 'Add a few zeroes' onto a headline reading '6000 Jews die in Holocaust', that I liked.

But yes, I think the Arbeit Macht Frei cartoon should've won.

I did. But I laughed harder at Arbeit Macht Frei. In fact, so hard, my brother came into the room to see what I was laughing at. He didn't find it quite so funny...though I was laughing too much to tell him it was part of a Jewish anti-Semitic competition...

Actually it was following the announcement that the muslims were holding a contest for anti-semitic cartoons, not the outrage itself. Sort of a, anything you can do we can do better pissing match, and to show that unlike muslims, jews have a sense of humor about their religion.

I wonder if they had actualy been funny would there been so much of a protest.If it had actually made muslims laugh?? Or is that possible .Muslims laughing that is??
