Apparently, it's in free association with the US and is administered by it and yet is an independent nation...the Wikipedia has spoken.

Micronesia and Marshall islands also apparently signed the compact of free association but never quite became part of the U.S., though that topic is highly debatable.

Philippines too....
Philipines were once upon a time owned by the U.S., but free association (talking about Palau) does not necessarily mean it was part of the U.S., and I don't believe Palau is...

Yes, whoever came up with this list has the philosophy "if it's almost a country, it's America's fault".

Most threads seem to be for that purpose nowadays.

Many if not most comments criticizing America are indeed justified. But some things are just...idiotic and counterproductive.

If I remember right it was called the "Bear Flag Republic" or something wierd like that in our history books. Rebel's wanting to succeed from Mexico tore down the Mexican Flag and put one up of a bear....I think that's how it went...

It was a mistake- it was meant to be a "Pear" not a "Bear". The guy who made the first flag misheard.

Seriously.

Also the US, the Netherlands, and the Republic of Yucatán recognised the Republic of Texas, IIRC.

Slight problem with your list! Marshall Islands, Palau, and the Philippines are not part of the United States. I don't believe Micronesia is either.

Also, the Confederate States of America was disbanded in 1865 after trying, notice the word trying, to secede from the Union. They split as early as 1860 and were reincorporated back into the United States throughout the rest of the 1860s.

For the love of god people, it's secede not succeed. Especially since no one who tried to secede from the US succeeded.
