Didya hear about the Millenium Tower? It's gonna be over 2,000 feet high, located in Japan, function like a mini-city, AND be so ossum! The downside is, well, can you say 911?? And i'm not talking about the phone.

Yeah, I've seen it on Extreme Engineering like six times. It wouldn't function like a minicity, it would be a city. The tower would be able to house at least 100,000 people with all the avaible servises people are used to. IIRC, it is to be modular, so they could have people move into the bottom levels and then build the next levels when they are needed.
Now, is construction actually going to happen, or is it going to remain a pipe dream?

ooh that is pretty cool. whatever happened to all the underground city/tower projects i remember hearing about being built in japan a few years back?
we have a millenium tower of our own in neighbouring Portsmouth... though its sucky in comparison :p http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/5585/portsmouthmilleniumtower51kd.jpg
I think the Burj Dubai will be really cool also; that's going to be the tallest building in the world once it's completed. Big buildings are always cool...

Sounds like something from that godawful Voyager episode.

I didn't know it was to be built on an artifical island!!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!
That looks pretty cool. I'd try to buy an apartment on the top floor if I wasn't afraid of planes crashing into me. Although, I'd live with a room on one of the lower levels. :D
And I second that slide idea...

I'm just surprised that they're labelling it with the nominative of "Millenium". I would have thought that the opening being at least eight years from the actual turn of the millenium (2000->2001, assuming it's a CE date) might be stretching it a bit.
(Mind you, that's a short-term view. After a couple of centuries, anything between 1980 and 2020 would be considered 'around the turn of the millenium' I suppose. ;))

Looks like the first arcology is being built. Yay!
Who wants to join me in building one in the US named 'Noah's Arcology'(c)(r)(tm)? :D

You're not cool...this isn't the 'hood...hell they don't even talk like that in the 'hood. Well, they say it won't happen because of too many issues like earthquakes and stuff, but terrorist attacks aren't an issue unless Japan decides they want to invade a Muslim country or something along those lines...although their troops in Iraw don't seem to do much...maybe they don't have enough Muslims.
