If you had to move, where would you go?

Poll to follow... i'm not giving easy choices (at least i don't figure they're easy).

If you heard news that, oh, if you stayed in your present country you'd be contaminated by radiation and dead within a few months...

Of these places, where would you go?

if you live in one of these countries, let us know what's cool about your place.

I choose Cuba. Great health system. Plus, after Castro dies, I don't think 'communism' will last very long there. And that'll be fairly soon. It'll probably become capitalist after that.

East Timor. It's desperately poor right now, but there are plans to start pumping oil and gas from under Timorese waters. Also I dig Indonesian martial arts and what few parts of Indonesian culture I've been exposed to. While East Timor is now independent from Indonesia, there are still some cultural similarities, and it's close enough to visit Indonesia now and then.

Considering other schemes the CIA have tried, I imagine dropping tied-up bundles of them in the hope one of them hits him and kills him may be used as an assassination technique.

yeah, knowing some Spanish would make the move to Vennie, Cuba or Nicaragua easier than the other places...

I chose Albania because it's technically part of Europe.... and it's close to some pretty nice places, like M3rcenaries' port of choice, Greece.

I wasn't going to give a reasonable option.

To probably most of us who post here, each country would pose some big problems or at least big changes, maybe the types with which we've never had to deal.

that was the point -- you're given a bunch of options that (probably, at least in some respects) are revolting. And you're asked to choose the one that's the least revolting.

I think he was purposely trying to make all the choice repellant. Kind of a "Which bad place is the least bad?" thing. Which leads to my question: "Why can't an oppressive regime take over in a country with a decent (by that I mean cool/cold) climate?"

I wouldn't mind moving to Cuba and being a fisherman in some small beach town in fact I feel like retiring there now especially since to my best knowledge British money is worth quite allot in Cuba.

:::looks at the poll:::

Say what? Is North Korea's average January temp. of -7 C, and much colder on some occassions (the temperature is supposed to have hit -20 C during the battle of the Chosin Reservoir) not cold enough for you?
http://www.climate-zone.com/climate/north-korea/celsius/pyonggang.htm

Albania's not quite as cold, but should qualify as cool.
http://www.climate-zone.com/climate/albania/fahrenheit/tirana.htm

And the mountainous areas of some of the others can be damnably cold. Afghanistan can see as low as -21 C. http://www.country-studies.com/afghanistan/climate.html

And Russia's already ben mentioned. There's also China, Argentina, the Cental Asian "Stans", and several others that have temperate climates (BTW, that's the phrase you want instead of decewnt or cool/cold).

As for the OP, mark me down as taking my chances where I live now.

I would say Cuba, despite the fact that when Castro dies there's going to be a horrible civil war (hurray for the USA doubtless helping the capitalists to get some kind of dictator into power!) and the country will probably end up like Haïti.

And that will not be great.

But as it stands at the moment, it's got some of the world's best healthcare, for free! Woohoo! Much better than the NHS!

And it's got stability and places to go out and enjoy yourself.

of the options offered, those are indeed not easy choices. but i happen to be of the opinion, not having any real factual personal experience, but just based on what i'm hearing through the various grape vines i monitor, that hugo chavez if i've even got the right name, sounds pretty cool to me. so i'll go with venizuala.

i'm really not fond of tropical climates, though i might otherwise consider cuba or east timore.

nepal, which isn't on your list, with all it's current problems and risks i'd also consider, and would probably be a valid addition to your list at the moment. as would perhapse bhutan for any nonbudhists.

but then i LIKE mountains and mountain climates.

nepal doesn't really encourage immegration, they've got more people then the can in a sense deal with as it is, so it would almost certainly be a dificulty to get in other then on a very limited short time tourist visa.

well venezuala's got some places with high enough elevations for the near tropical location not to be a total problem in all parts of it.

politicly all of those places my main concern is the u.s.'s interests in them and what that would be likely to screw up, already have, and be in the proccess of doing.
