I have recently changed my desktop background. However, whenever I load up or shut down my computer the old image is displayed for a few second. Any idea on how to stop this?

My OS is windows 98SE.

Short of editing the registry, there's no way I know of to change that.

Can't you make a copy of your current desktop, under a different name, then set it as your desktop?

This way, your current desktop becomes the previous one, so should show during shut down...?

I have win98SE, it depends on how you put up your new desktop image.

Did you right click and then click on "set image as background" or did you right click and go into desktop and manually put the image as background?

play around with the two methods, figure out which one does what, apply the one that works.

(the difference: whether you right click on the image and set it or right click on the desktop and set it).

Your current background image is probably part of your "active desktop". Change the image you want as background to a *.bmp file, select it again as background and disable your active desktop.
