They are talking about sanitation precautions but this has a likely hood of becoming an epidemic because of all the illegals in the area who always ignore all the laws and advisories so while US citizens take proper precautions they are still at high risk of getting it because of the illegals who ignore the laws and other important government statements. This is one of the biggest reasons why America needs to crack down on illegal immigrants and close the southern border.

Bloody hell... bubonic plague... not good back when we in Britain had it, but I don't think it's the faut of illegal immigrants.

Health officials said they suspect the woman was exposed to fleas in her home and that there was no cause for alarm. An estimated 10 to 20 Americans contract plague each year, mostly in rural communities.

"Bubonic plague is not usually transmissible from person to person," said Dr. Jonathan Fielding, head of public health. "Fortunately, human plague infection is rare in urban environments, and this single case should not be a cause for alarm in the area where this occurred."

This is one woman. Not an epidemic. It has nothing to do with immigrants, let alone undocumented workers.

One to 20 cases [of bubonic plague] are found in the US each yearSo stop being so hysterical :p

Most news sources carrying that story will probably have that sentence in their article. I found it in http://www.foodconsumer.org/777/8/Questions_and_Answers_About_Bubonic_Plague.shtml

I swear the BBC had an article on this yesterday, but it seems to have disapeared.

But because those rural communities are good, God-fearing white folk, they never have to worry.

Admittedly that's because when Britain had it, we had 14th century medical treatment, which didn't even amount to leeches. And it was pneumonic plague that was the Black Death, with a high probability that many of the people who died around that time died from anthrax instead.

This is nothing new, people. Ground squirrels out in the deserts have plague, and there are a few cases every year.

Next you'll suggest killing all the kitties because as spawn of Satan, they are the ones spreading the disease. You know, like they did in the 14th century.

(If they had not killed cats, maybe the plague would not have spread so fast, as the rat population would not have boomed, and the flea population would not have boomed, and.....)

I'm more worried about the mumps epidemic in Kansas than I am in an LA plague.

Guys, in some areas of New Mexico Yersinia Pestis (the bacterium which causes the Bubonic and Pneumonic Plagues) is considered endemic. That means that if you stay in those areas for any extended period, the chance of your coming into contact with the organism approaches unity.

Our old friend the Black Death is here to stay. And it doesn't care about your immigration status.
