I know someone in this situation, and hopefully it's clear enough what I mean. Is there anything in place, any sort of charities or anything at all that tries to offer aid for situations of these kinds to offer the needed medical help? I'm already putting in my searching, questioning, etc. but nothing yet is turning up. Was wondering if something like this is in the realm of "conventional wisdom" that I ought to know about already that some NSer here already knows about or something. Any thoughts or knowledge appreciated.

he should go to the doctors office or the billing office of the local hospital.
those billing/insurance people know all the angles. if there is a program--governmental or charity-- that will cover your friend, they'll know about it.
