Hospital Ship to Visit Tsunami Areas (http://www.military.com/NewsContent/0,13319,94698,00.html?ESRC=eb.nl)

A U.S. Navy hospital ship will embark next week on a five-month cruise of the western Pacific and south Asia to visit communities struck by the tsunami more than a year ago, the U.S. military said Tuesday.

General Peter Pace, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the tour was "a direct result of lessons learned last year during the tsunami relief operations."

Navy medical teams, personnel from the U.S. Department of Health and non-governmental organizations, and volunteer doctors will team up for the mission, he said.

The first stop will be in the Philippines followed by other countries who have asked for assistance, he said.

A Navy spokesman said the teams will provide dental care, same-day surgery and inoculations in communities stricken by the tsunami which struck coastal areas around the Indian Ocean on December 26, 2004.

"Doctors and nurses really just want to find somebody who needs help, and help them. And I think you're going to see more of the same on this deployment," said Lieutenant Junior Grade Bashon Mann.

The Mercy was deployed to the area in the wake of the tsunami, arriving a month later and staying for five months to provide assistance in Indonesia, East Timor and Papua New Guinea.

Mann said about 1,000 medical and support personnel took part in the first tsunami tour.

I'm sure people who would be dead or crippled otherwise are very happy. But perhaps we could have some sort of arbitage system going where the U.S. will pay Cuban doctors to work in disaster areas? And not just cuban doctors but the cheapest expetise available. This could get more bang for your disaster relief buck. On the other hand, the U.S. might want their crews to get experience that they wouldn't normally be able to aquire so that would have to be figured in too I guess.

You all realize that this exact ship as well as a few smaller ones have been making regular trips.

Why don't you find something else to bitch about and leave our men and women in the army alone?

If you really feel this way and think this way about the Army then I really do feel sorry for you, and I hope you'll come to your damn senses.

In what manner is refusing to bootlick the Army "craziness"? Because you seem to have either neglected to read the thread or some delusional issues.

Navy medical teams, personnel from the U.S. Department of Health and non-governmental organizations, and volunteer doctors will team up for the mission, he said.

Notice how the only military in there is the Navy medical teams and the ship provided. That's very typical of militaries, since their response time is usually quicker, they can help NGOs and others in providing assistance to disaster struck areas.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the people that actually do any shooting.

Cute. Yet I was questioning what the other moron posted (neither he nor yourself actually defended his statements yet). I didn't make any statements besides that one, yet you claim I "am one of the chosen few who have all the answers to all the ills of the world, but who can't figure out how to tie their own shoes". Did I miss out on the part of the argument in which you went insane, Forrest?

So, do you deny that the experiments of the US military at the center of the Earth to develop a missile that would travel through the crust to attack Iran from below contributed directly to the tsunami? Ha! I'd like to see you prove that!

it's par for the course with Eut. Was happenign with me on another thread as well. I have heard him ask the questio a couple times - "What ever happened to the courtesy I remember people showing each other back in the day?", as if he isn't the one that usually starts it all by constantly claiming that people who dont hold his point of view are detached from reality, while making no attempt to show how the other person is wrong and he is right.

I fell into the trap today as well, but the best course of action is to ignore those comments from him that dont contribute anythign to the discusion/debate.
