Smoking

Firstly, this is not a thread to debate the morality of smoking (until page 3 anyway:p ), but, more relevantly, who smokes, how regularly, and what?

Personally, I probably have maybe 5-10 a week, and smoke Lucky Strikes, anything else makes me feel bad.

I and my boyfriend smoke Camel Lights and Turkish Gold (depending on the whim of whomever's turn it is to buy and availability), and I think if it's a bad day we're hitting maybe......4 a day, maybe 5. But we also share a pack, because I used to be a much heavier smoker and, well, he has more self-control. So he keeps it.

Hello! *waves*
Well hello!

Azarbad reminds me, I should mention....during the month or so that I was sick, I think I only smoked like, four days of it, and all at the end. I don't usually really have cravings, in fact I got a few days without even thinking of a cigarette, but it's usually my only excuse at work to catch a break with my boyfriend.

I smoke, I try different brands and am not partial to any one of them. I smoke between 0 and 30 cigarettes a day. Some weeks I don't smoke, others I do.

Anti-smokers will tell you that anyone who smokes is "addicted;" this is total and complete horseshit.

smoking is one of the more stupid habits you can take up. its addictive and deadly. if you dont smoke you shouldnt start; if you do smoke you should quit now.

What about those of us who smoke because it's deadly?

Based on both sides of my family, I'm staring down at least a 90 year sentence on this earth. All I'm trying to do is level the playing field.

I did quit for awhile (about seven months), but that's because I was doing much more addictive, much more deadly things, so I decided that cigarettes were probably a better alternative. I used them to break that addiction, and then I wore down how often I smoked them.

Ah, well....when you have a non-smoking family, and you're also a flute player during most of your smoking, and you live in the Fine Arts dorms instead of the smoking dorms (back when I lived in the dorms, at least), and you don't want your car to smell like smoke, and you can't just smoke on the job.....I guess that cuts down the available smoke-time quite a bit.

i once tried to convince my sister (a nurse) that the government should promote smoking as a way to save social security. that the problem isnt a lack of young people but a lack of DEAD people. smokers die much younger than non smokers and many will never collect even one social security payment. its a win/win thing.

One of my friend's is a drunk smoker - he gets wasted with everyone, then either bums cigarettes from people who smoke or goes and buys a pack himself. I watched him go through 15 a few weeks ago in one night, then not smoke for almost 2 weeks. 'Tis strange.

I roll my own, usually with Golden Virginia, because it's about half as expensive as buying ready-rolled cigs (Also I smoke pot most weekends so rolling tobacco is handy). I smoke 5 cigarettes per weekday: 3 morning, 2 evening. Weekends I smoke between 1 and 10 per day.

I can't believe people who smoke a pack or more of fags every day! (I assume you're referring to a 20-pack). I understand tobacco addiction, but I don't understand how your cravings could possibly to compel you to smoke that extensively. You're going to die super-young!

well, see here is the thing. no one things that cigarettes are good for you. no one thinks that they aren't bad for you. we all know they are bad, we all know they hurt, we all know that we should be drinking seaweed juice and taking mudbaths instead. but thats not how everyone chooses to relax. yes, tobacco companies are shitty, yes they lied and fabricated information in the past (and im sure that they still do) -- but the fact of the matter is, we all know the dangers, and we still choose to do it.

20 to 30 cigarettes per day for about 9 years, up until February of the past year when I finally managed to quit :) I had to resort to a treatment though, but I made it. I bought a pack of cigarettes a few days ago to help me fight an abnormally large amount of stress, smoked about 6 cigarettes to help me calm down and tossed the rest of the pack; no addiction recurrence whatsoever.
