What's the test on?

Write important stuff on post-it notes and stick them places you look at often (for example on your bathroom mirror, on the kettle, your computer, the shower etc.). Works especially well for formulas and quotations, you just kind of absorb them without really trying, which is always nice.

Also, break the revision up and go out for a walk, a jog or a swim to wake your body up. Don't drink coffee or coke.

Good luck with your exam.

Yeah, persevere.

Other than that, I always get comfy, put music on (with no words to it, classical is great), and start revising, usually by writing out my notes again, mostly with text book/lecture notes at hand.

With my German, I listen and watch as much stuff as possible as well as doing grammar excercises and translations everyday.

It's hard work but it pays off.

Masturbate regularly. It probably won't help with the revision, but at least you'll enjoy it more.

Write down short summaries of what you're learning. That way you're more likely to remember them.

Depending on what the test is, rereading notes or doing practice exercises helps a lot.

How ever you choose to study, make sure that you get a good night sleep the night before your test, and eat breakfast.

DO NOT spend the night cramming, because you not only won't remember anything, you will fall asleep during the test.

Read your books and take notes from them. Then take notes from the notes. I find writing things out again and again is the best way to get them in my head.

Otherwise, eat regularly and sensibly, drink enough water (and only water), take breaks every so often.

The morning of your exam, copy as many of your notes as you can onto various parts of your body. Then cheat in the exam.

Write on your computer mouse!! I did it and it works wonders!! My mouse!! (http://www.jcxp.net/forums/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=4031)

It does work really well, i now know the osi model off the top of my head!! i would also recomend writing on your keyboard... but i like mine and it is rather new :P but if no space for post it notes other items e.g. stereos can still be stickied so to speak.

If it's foreign languages, play a few online games on servers from your prospective countries.

I play quite regularly on French and German servers, and try to speak the language as much as possible. I also know a bit of Dutch from CS.

For everything else, just buy revision guides and learn what's in them, I'm afraid.

Seconded

(realises this really isn't getting his Classics coursework done:rolleyes: )

Oh yeah, the help. Well, I rarely revise, so I can't really be of any help. When I do, I read through my notes, write them out, and write essays from memory until all the facts are correct. This only works for my subjects (all essay based), but it does work.

Good luck with the exam anyway.

Dude. I don't know which is weirder, taking photos of your mouse, or having a mouse that is apparently decorated like a cow.

I hate revision. Problems with revision:
1. Sources - I can't find any difinitive source of information for each subject, and as a result waste time revising from multiple sources (let alone finding them - I keep coming across more) .
2. Discipline - I find it difficult to stick to revision time-tables, I keep switching study periods around and postponing them, until by the end of the week I haven't got anything done and there's a huge revision debt I can't face.
3. Distractions keep getting the better of me - I end up sitting down to revise and not being able to get my head down and concentrate.
4. Noise - my family don't really give a flying poo about how much noise they make when I'm trying to study. There's always a door open or a T.V. turned up too loud, or more often power tools (like tile-cutters) being constantly used.
5. Frustration - I get easily annoyed, usually caused by tiredness, not understanding something, difficulty getting comfy etc. I often get so frustrated I can't work and give up - another reason for the revion debt building up.
6. Lack of help - I go to a different school to my brothers, their's is a lot less work intensive. BBC website is full of crap when it comes to general revision help, If you can't find something don't bother going to the revision questions page - It's full of moronic half-wits asking detailed questions about their body and poorly spelt complaints regarding their perverted obsessions.
7. Confidence - or lack of. I look at a weeks worth of unachieved targets and just binge on distractions in a bout of low self-esteem. I get out of it, but then end up getting little done again.
8. Other commitments - Such as filling up a sketchbook and preparing for the art exam (got to be done in 2 weeks), on which I try to get some paintings or drawings done and get so enraged by the tediousness of the detail and unfeasable length of time that I need to stop.
9. Time-tables - the overwhelming amount of work to do makes constructing a timetable seem such a daunting task. It looks as if it'll take such a considerable amount of time that I cowardly don't go near it.
10. Slow progress - I often find myself half way through a chapter I had set myself to revise all of in an hour. I'm a slow reader, and often end up reading sentences over and over again before It registers properly - it's not a good way to revise and I don't take enough of it in. Apart from frustrating it's also builds up a debt of revision, prevents me from sticking to my timetable, and crushes my confidence in myself.

I think that's it, except for:
Panic - What the hell am I going to do if I can't sort this out? Apart from two years of very hard work being futile, I can't stand the thought of failing or achieving less than my potential.
The only good thing I can think of is that at least I want to get this problem solved, which stacks the odds of doing it well in my favour.
