Maybe I should just get a dog....

So I haven't seen my girlfriend in almost two weeks, first I was gone chaperoning a bunch of sixth graders on a week long camping trip, then when I got back she had her daughter for spring break. She doesn't feel comfortable with me spending the night with her there and our daytime schedules during the week don't mesh, she teaches school and I work evenings.
We've been exclusive for about six months but things seem to have been a little off lately. I was planning on sitting down and talking with her the next chance we have to be alone together, ask her if there's anything on her mind, if there's something wrong, that sort of thing. In fact I was planning on going by her place this afternnon, before work since she was supposed to take her daughter back to her father yesterday. I put a new tire on my bike and was changing into my gear, planning on a leisurely ride before work that would take me by her place, when my phone rang.
It was my girl, she still had her daughter, the exchange with her ex was postponed until today she said. Then she proceded to break up with me over the phone. It wasn't me, it was her, she just needed some time alone... man it always seems like the same speech. I wasn't really shocked or surprised, like I said I had this feeling something was wrong. I just wish she hadn't done it over the phone...
I guess it could have been worse. The girl I dated before her dumped me via e-mail...

Does that mean I should get rid of the two cats I have already?

well that sucks
before i got to the "she dumped me" part i was going to suggest that maybe it was time for a new girlfriend so maybe it IS her and not you.
if it doesnt work, it doesnt work. that doesnt mean there is anything wrong with you just that there was something wrong with the 2 of you as a couple.

Get a dog that will eat the two cats. Everyone wins - except the cats.
Dogs are idiots, get another cat and call it even.
Too bad about being dumped over the phone though, that's harsh. :(

Dogs are not idiots, they can be amazingly empathetic. What you need to get is a small dog, like a pug or a miniature schnauzer.

Get a big dog, just a puppy. Sure it will be attacked by the cats but at least it will learn to respect them and shouldn't eat them when it grows to 7 times their size. :)
Bonus as well, nothing like a guy with a puppy to attract the ladies:p

For someone that's just been broken up with for no apparent reason, you seem to be taking it quite well. Keep it up and don't get a bloody dog. They smell, they demand attention, and they cannot be ignored. Do you want to never be left the hell alone again for the next ten years? think about it.
Anyway, sorry about the girl.

Or maybe it will just develop an undeniable hatred towards its feline oppressors and take glorious revenge upon maturation.

Anyway, sorry about the girl.A dogs not really an option where I'm living right now, it was just a rant.
Like I said I felt there was something amiss, I wasn't really blindsided. The 'taking it well' is something that comes with experiance...

Like I said I felt there was something amiss, I wasn't really blindsided. The 'taking it well' is something that comes with experiance...I don't know if I ever want to get that kind of experience then. Misery post-breaking up is an exquisite sort of wallowing that's sort of got merits all its own.
