Bloom County was Boondocks and Calvin rolled into one from 1970 to 1989. It spawned Sunday-only efforts from creator Berke Breathed called Outland (1989-1991) and the current Opus.

The strip had the political satire weight of Doonesbury but with an understandable angle which was a deliberate reaction to both the over-erudite Doonesbury and over-saccharine Garfield. Try looking it up.

Uhh... That's the style. It's called Anime.

And for your information, it takes a lot of work to draw like that, and the animation is supposed to look the way it does. It adds an accented flavor to it, whereas "full motion" animation is pretty bland.

I think it's funny that some people will say that a comic strip is better than a TV show just because the "animation isn't that good". Laughable.

You don't need to win an argument with Fass. He wins it for you by living in his own version of reality, life George W, only liberal and fagcentric. He then proceeds to browbeat you into thinking you're wrong by adopting that superior tone of his. I just let him go about his business and think he's right. It saves time and aggravation.

I think the comic is better because not only does the animation suck, but the strip was around for far longer and Aaron MacGruder used it to find his voice. I think someone convinced him to go to animation too quickly.

And please, don't presume to lecture me on anime. I'm quite familiar with the style. The FPS ratio of the Boondocks 'toon is too low, and looks very cheap. It doesn't take a lot of work to draw like that -- kids all over the place can draw like that. What takes work is frame rate.

So Google the title and learn about it. Shouldn't take but a few minutes.

Better yet, read the thread.

Aw, fuck it, I'll repeat:

Bloom County was easily the best comic strip from 1980-1989. Possessed of Doonesbury's political savagery, but with a down-home delivery that was an antidote to the dryness of Doonesbury and the syrupy pseudo-wit of Garfield.

Did you read the post?

1980-1989. Nationally syndicated (by the Washington Post, I think).

It's defunct. It was briefly survived by a Sunday-only continuation called Outland. It was recently resurrected as a Sunday-only strip called Opus (named after what became Bloom County's most recognizable character).

It's like "favourite", just without the "u".

Dictionary.com says:
adj
1: appealing to the general public; "a favorite tourist attraction" [syn: favorite]
2: preferred above all others and treated with partiality; "the favored child" [syn: favored, favorite(a), favourite(a), pet, preferred]
n
1: a competitor thought likely to win [syn: front-runner, favorite]
2: a special loved one [syn: darling, favorite, pet, dearie, deary, ducky]
3: something regarded with special favor or liking; "that book is one of my favorites" [syn: favorite]

Actually, now that I think of it, Sherman's Lagoon is my favorite, but Calvin and Hobbes is my favorite of those on the list. It's too late to change anyway.

I forgot about Sherman's Lagoon. Pure laughter.

In print: Its a four way Tie: Calvin and Hobbes (first among equals), Dilbert, Doonsebury, and Bloom County, with notable runners up: Farside, Foxtrot and Boondocks

On the Web omic side, the penultimate bringer of the funny and Webcomic without equal is none other than

Seriously, I mea who can even come close to "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Pirates"?

Second is a close tie between GU comics (http://gucomics.com) and Penny Arcade (http://penny-arcade.com)
After that we are left with Something Positive (http://www.somethingpositive.net/), Nukees (http://www.nukees.com/), Userfriendly (http://ars.userfriendly.org/), Starslip Crisis (http://www.starslipcrisis.com/index.shtml) and last, but certainly not least, Short Packed (http://www.shortpacked.com/)

Sherman's Lagoon! Forgot that, too.

So it's Calvin & Hobbes, Far Side, Sherman's Lagoon for me.

I was a big Bloom County fan. Too bad the strip was discontinued. It was a perfect lampoon of our politics and culture. The characters were fantastic as well.

You know, I used to find Garfield funny when I was little, now that I'm 22, it just seems dull and not that funny.

I like Zits, Non-Sequincter, Charlie Brown, etc.
