Great link. I love ghost stories. Although they do have the negative side effect of waking me from sleep a few days after reading/hearing them and being unable to sleep again, being scared stiff over something.

"I don't believe in ghosts, but I'm scared of them" describes it best :D

I have never seen a ghost but I have witnessed phenomena that could not be rationally explained. Was this a ghost, well, I don't know.

I don't know, it could be...
My mom swears she used to see a ghost at the place where she worked, and so had several of her colleagues. And that didn't much sound like a nice experience...

well...i really just want a cool kinda ghost. not like casper, exactly, but not one that will paint the walls with blood and strangle cats, either
a wisp that inexplicably appears in the room where a grandparent dies, or a head that appears in a photo belonging to a long dead rello. now that would be cool

I grew up in an extremely haunted house. Some we (and our guests of all ages) would see, some would just whistle or play music, some would just move stuff around in a mischeivious way, and one was very mean and threatening. I have sooo many stories, I could not tell them all to you - but it might interest you to know that our priest, with whom I had consulted about the problem for years - left the priesthood after he (and the rest of us) saw a series of four "people" walk through our library while he and his wife were visiting us. Shook him up pretty good because he had always thought I was making this stuff up and had just told me I was "under stress."

What always bothered me most about the whole experience (I lived in the house for 12+ years), was how these things could interact with things in our world. Sometimes, you would make a bed and literally before you could make it out of the room, the bed would be completely messed up as if someone had rolled around all over it. Or, they would open AND close doors, move chairs, etc. I even had one woman who was in the habit of watching me a good deal. On the night before I was leaving to get married, I woke up and she was sitting on a bench in my room. I didn't have a bench in my room - but it was there. She was using a brush (again not mine) to brush her long hair she normally wore up. And she was looking at her reflection in a freestanding floor length mirror that I did have.

Got sooooooooooo many stories.

Friend of a friend says she say one. No, really.
In our halls at uni, a guy hung himself in one of the rooms. This friend of a friend now has that room, and swears she saw a figure standing at the end of her bed one night. True story.

Me being deeply sceptical and all that, I suspect a dream or something. But hey, she seems to enjoy telling it.

Well, every night we had two kids run through our room and there was music that would play downstairs in formal living room (used to be a ballroom, but had been divided into a very large living room and very large garden room). The music would play and you could hear glasses clinking and murmmered talking, a guy with a cane walking. There was a party every night. After we moved in, my parents spent every night for an entire year sitting at the top of a very large curved staircase - my dad with a pistol in his lap - scared out of their wits.

My sister had a parade of people that would pass through her room at night. The would walk out of the wall at one end of her room and into the wall at the other end.

I was doing laundry once and took a basket of clothes down the stairs. At the bottom of the staircase, I remembered a pair of jeans that I wanted to wash. I sprinted upstairs to get them and immediately turned around and ran back down the stairs. The basket was gone. I searched for it for hours before locating it on top of a stone pedestal at the far end of the courtyard - outside!

Watching TV could be a challenge sometimes as the channels would switch. Everytime you turned it back to your show, they would switch again.

For years, it was just frustrating stuff like that, but just before my family moved, things got pretty threatening. My mother and sister were actually driven out of the house because the french doors to an upstairs balcony kept rapidly opening and closing. These things would go on for a long time - 30 minutes or more. When I got home from school, my little sister and my mother were on the front porch (a huge veranda with eight large columns supporting the roof). My mother had a knife in her hands - as if that were going to protect her.

The one time my parents left us alone in the house over night was terrible. I guess at least one of them decided to have some fun with us and made the electricity go on and off rapidly and doors open and close. While I, my sister, and a friend were standing in the kitchen discussing what to do (I knew we would be in trouble for leaving) a chair literally flew between me and my friend - a distance of about 10 feet. We ran out without discussing it any more. We circled the block in my friends car for an hour and a half watching the lights blink on and off in a lower quarter of the house. We waited until things calmed down and stopped for a good while before we went back in.

Two nights before my parents moved, my mom and dad were sleeping in their room. My mother woke up with a start as she said she felt hundreds of hands covering every inch of her body. They pushed down with such force, she thought she was going to be pushed through the matress. She was too afraid to speak (often, it was like the voice was literally sucked out of you).
The next night, it happened to my Dad.

I still have lots more stories. You might be interested to know that I did some research on the house. It was built by a banker in the mid 1800's. After that family moved, the house was vacant for a short while and then it was used as a funeral home for over 30 years at the turn of the century. The people who had it before us, bought it in 1938, renovated it and lived there for almost 50 years.

Since my parents sold the house over a decade ago, the new owners have tried to contact us repeatedly (presumably to discuss the happenings). I just can't verbally talk about this stuff. Even after all of these years, it still freaks me out. Whenever I move to a new house, I always get worried. So far, I have never lived in another house that had any extra people in it.

Probably. Could have been worse though, at least now if you're ever short on cash you can go on a talk show like oprah. You'd have to be pretty desperate though.....

I lived in a very old big Victorian house when I was a kid. Every so often I would see someone walking up and down the main stairs, and sometimes they would continue up around to the attic stairs, walking right through the door that was always kept closed (the attic was drafty). This ghost was never scary, just seemed to be someone doing their rounds to make sure everything was ok. The house did have a widow's walk, and I often thought that was where the ghost was headed when going up to the attic.

A friend and I were walking through a pine forest at dusk, and both of us very quietly freaked out when we saw something. Neither of us wanted to seem foolish in front of the other (in case it was a trick of the light), but neither of us wanted to stick around (in case it was real). We upped the speed of our walking, 'til we'd exited the pines, and even then didn't stop to talk what we'd seen. It was by a small bridge that we both 'fessed up and compared notes.

We'd seen precisely the same thing at the same time; a woman with pale, translucent flesh, dressed in clothes that were lighter, yet similarly pale and translucent. Clothes that looked more like impossibly-flowing rags or ribbons, swaying and undulating about her legs and waist in such a way as her body was not apparently moving, and all of it as though she were submersed in water - slow movements, deliberate motion. Her eyes were blackened pits with dull pin-point reflections glittering in them. There was no sound whatsoever.

What I'd seen was this: Coming 'round the corner of one stand of pines, this woman, to my left and out of the corner of my eye, was floating about twelve feet off the ground. That was when we'd both suddenly upped our walking speed. I glanced back before we stopped at the bridge, mentally telling myself that what I'd seen had surely been a trick of the failing light in the pines, and more-than half-expecting to see that my momentary sense of dread was naught but a flight of ill-timed paranoia.

Instead, when I turned back to look, I saw her again, less-clear than before - but looking directly at the two of us. That's pretty much it. We went about our affairs after that, and never saw her again.

My dad and brother and I went on the queen mary, heard something weird, can't explain it until this day. It was in a room in the pool area, heard a scratching noise. We isolated the room, shined my dad's cell phone in as well as a flashlight, it was empty, nothing was rigged.

Seen a ghost?

I doubt it.

Seen through dreams how other people have died?

Often enough.

It's more curse than blessing, though.

Not seen one as such, but have felt something massaging my shoulders (sic). and have had something walking behind be once in a while - could just be a guardian angel or whatever your religions can call it.

Seen? Personally, no. Heard? Yes.

A friend of mine lived in an apartment that had some freaky past. There had been the occasional experiences such as feeling a "presence", etc. that I just dismissed as odd feelings, or one's mind playing tricks on them.

One night I was over watching TV. Then there was this strange sound that came from the bedroom. It wasn't like anything I had ever heard before, if I was to try and classify it, I would call it a shriek, but definitely not human.

The experience was kind of strange, I started concentrating on the TV, as if some part of me was trying to block out something I didn't want to know about. It wasn't until my friend asked "What was that?" that I became curious about the whole thing.

We went back to his bedroom. He had some file cabinets near the door, which we found were opened. He wouldn't have left them open, because he would have run into them coming out of the bedroom. Assuming the latches had failed and the drawers had slid open, we tried opening and closing the drawers server times. We were unable to reproduce the noise.

The whole experience was more curiosity than fear.

Later, after he had moved out, my friend confided in me that he had seen a dark figure after waking up one night. The figure passed through him.

Whatever was there, stayed there. Neither my friend or I have had similar experiences since he moved out.

I've never seen a ghost, but I have had several encounters with things that are not easily explicable. We moved into a house that we got from a man whose wife had just died (she was 70 years old or so). In the house there were portraits of her everywhere (he said that he didn't want to take them with him because he didn't want so many memories of her). One day, when I was passing one of the paintings, I noticed something unusual. The eyes in the painting were looking straight at me -- this was peculiar because in all of the paintings, she was looking straight ahead, but in this one, she was looking far to the left. I was slightly freaked out, but I assumed that the painting was always like that and I just hadn't noticed. As I walked past, I could see her eyes follow me out of the corner of my eye. I turned around and the eyes were turned all the way to the right, still looking at me. I was fairly scared, and I rubbed my eyes to see if I was just imagining things. When I looked again, the eyes were looking straight ahead like they should have been. Probably just my imagination, but it was frightening to me nonetheless. Another time, when I was sleeping, I heard a knock on the door. I assumed that it was my mother or father, and I went to open it. When I opened it, there was nothing there, but it was extremely cold. I could see my breath when I exhaled. I was scared, but I didn't want to look around for the cause and I went back to sleep. When I woke up in the morning, I assumed it was just a dream. However, my door was open (it was closed when I went to sleep) and when I looked at the doorknob, there was a strange hair on it. It wasn't strange because it was messed up or anything, but it was a long, white strand of hair -- no one in my family had that kind of hair, and I don't think it could have been there for a long period of time without my noticing or without me knocking it down when I opened the door. I don't know what to make of it now, but it was certainly fairly disturbing back then.
