Is this a cookie quest or honest question? It's an experiment to see if this actually hits the news in places other than Germany. This does not mean it's directly or indirectly related to Germany. It is insofar an honest question in that I want an answer. I already know that answer, I'm just interested in finding out if the rest of the world hears about it.

Common, everyday occurences aren't newsworthy. Now if no babies were raped by HIV infected, superstitious scumbags, that would be news.

Its a cookie quest.
Since we don't bother travelling the 1.7km to the road to fetch the papper, or turn on the TV to watch anything other than matches or movies, I have no idea.

Easter certainly plays a bigger role here too, but then again the Pope technically is German and usually addresses these issues. And then there's the Easter Marches, but their main agenda is the potential war with Iran.

Hmmm, I didn't know anything, but then I haven't had internet for Friday and pretty much all of saturday. Stupid maintenence.

I completely misread the OP. I thought something had happend in the Central African Republic. I was thought 'hasn't the CAR settled into a bit of stability in the last couple of years?'. Pfft, Chad is in North Africa! At least that's what my the Risk board shows.

I typed Chad in the search box of www.guardian.co.uk and it came up with two recent articles. Since Monday there have been 6 articles that mention Chad, two of which were about Chad. They mention advancing rebel troops on the capital, but no expulsion of refugees. However, they do mention that connections between the rebels and Darfur.

The BBC had one article from friday and one from saturday. Friday's mentioned the attack on the capital, acussations of Sudanese involvement by the Chadian government, cutting of diplomatic ties and threats to expel the refugees, but only threats. Saturday's still doesn't mention any expulsion, but is about the Chadian government threatening to shut down its oil pipeline unless it recieves revenues which have been withheld by the World Bank.

N'DJAMENA, Chad (AP) -- Chad's president broke off relations with Sudan and threatened to expel refugees from the neighboring Darfur region after parading more than 250 captured rebels through the streets of the capital following a violent uprising.
