Well, it is mighty patronising to accuse her of being indoctrinated and not knowing what is good for her. Maybe I'm a little bit sensitive, but I have spent much time with Muslim women due to my mum's profession, and all of them chose to wear the Hijab. None of them was forced.

To me, the choice of wearing it is like the choice we make to not go naked in Summer. There might be no practical reason for it, but it's still a thing of culture, which makes us feel more comfortable.
I imagine is the same for the Amish, the Mennonites, the Quakers, etc......er not to go naked, but to wear the headscarfe.

I think the Danes need to hurry up and stop pretending to be tolerant and admit that they enjoyed Nazi occupation....

Demanding that a Muslim remove their head-dress would be like demanding that a Jew salute the swastika, that a Christian piss on the Cross.

Perhaps we should simply mandate uniforms for everyone. Order everyone to shave all their body hair, and take injections to alter their skin tone so that everyone is virutally identical. That is, afterall, the next logical step. Or maybe we should just take all the Jews, homosexuals, Muslims, and non-Nordic races and gas them. That would achieve about the same thing.

On the topic of irrationality and faith, humans are not rational creatures (it is unlikely that human beings are capable of rationality, moreover). Science is no more rational than Scientology. Both are based on belief. One is a belief that is grounded in intuition and feelings, while the other is a belief that is grounded in sight, sound, touch, taste, &c. How can one differentiate between the two? One cannot. There is no more reason for me to believe that I am actually listening to iTunes Radio than there is for me to believe that there are/is no god(s), no demons, no devils, no angels, no Santa, &c.

You know, telling the rest of us to keep our opinions to ourselves impedes this idea of free speech.

Oh irony.

Then of course if there is no religious symbols, then there should be no military symbols, and then there should be no police symbols, and so on and so forth?

No, we are simply talking about "religious symbols". The mentality that would ban the hijab says it is a "religious symbol" simply because a religion requires modesty, and some believe that modesty includes covering the hair. By that logic, because my own religion (Christianity) calls for modest dress as well, I should be forced to take off some of my clothes, since they are "religious symbols".
