I'm updating my news source links.

I read the print versions of the International Herald Tribune and the Economist, as well as various online British and Japanese English news sites.

I'm looking for and English site for Die Zeit and Le Monde, if any exists.

Other quality English language news sources would be appreciated.

Not exactly what you're looking for, but you may find it useful none the less.

Basically it displays the news you're interested in, in proportion to the popularity of the events. There's a pretty good chance you've seen it all ready. I certainly appreciate it. :)

yeah, I looked over their front pages and couldn't find anything. That's part of why I posted - I thought someone might know where one might be found.

What I'm really wanting is English versions of the big non-English papers and news magazines, especially the European ones.

I can suggest three Australian English news sources:

http://www.theage.com.au/ - probably the best Australian newspaper.

http://www.abc.net.au/ - Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

http://www20.sbs.com.au/sbs_front/index.html - Australian with a distinct world view.

SBS (http://www9.sbs.com.au/theworldnews/) of course. Der Spiegel International (http://service.spiegel.de/cache/international/) offers interesting editorials and opinions regarding current issues, but not so much news like the German version does.

Die Zeit (http://www.zeit.de/) doesn't have an English version, and that's a pity because it's the best newspaper around.

Al-Jazeera's English version (http://english.aljazeera.net/HomePage) is also okay. They are pretty neutral (although some say that the Arabic content is different).

Reuters (http://today.reuters.com/news/home.aspx) is pretty good, as are most successful wire services. I'd love to be able to recommend the Associated Press (http://www.ap.org/), but it's a bitch to get much news from their site. Chances are a lot of the stuff you read is from wire services anyways.

As far as American sources go, the Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/world/index.html?nav%3Dleft&sub=AR) and the New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/pages/world/index.html) are reliable, the New York Times probably being the best for international news. The only problem with the New York Times is that you have to get a subscription for anything older than a week(?) old.

Let's see...these are the sites I get most of my news from:
Fairly good coverage (http://www.maximumlies.co.uk/)
This (http://www.deadbrain.co.uk/) isn't quite so intellectual, but still good.
Probably the best one I read (http://www.thevoiceofreason.co.uk/)
Nice (http://www.thespoof.com/)
Very good coverage of other sources (http://politicalhumor.about.com/library/bldailyfeed5.htm)
A little bit left-wing (http://www.thespeciousreport.com/)

Enjoy. I hope they're useful...

Try Pravda and AlJazeera. While both are pretty biased, they do tend to report sides (and facts) of conflicts our western media likes to ignore.

If you're looking for EU specific news then www.euobserver.com has more than you could ever read. It's more interesting that it sounds. I promise.

I've only just found this one, but it seems very interesting for Israel/Palestine analysis - www.bitterlemons.org

This quick search turned up a translated site of Le Monde. It has subscribe button, but lots of articles seem to be provided free of charge - http://mondediplo.com
...
I clicked the subscribe button and it's only if you want a print edition or to be able to access the archives.

Google is your friend. All I did was search for 'le monde english'... it wasn't that hard to find...

While I know an odd phrase or two in French, it's not anywhere near up to snuff for reading Le Monde.

Some pretty good news sources named here but I feel no collection of such would be complete without naming a few of the better blogs. :)

Please stay tuned for frequent edits as I add to this. ^_~

1. Instapundit

http://instapundit.com/

One of the oldest blogs and among the most respected. Glenn Reynolds clips those news articles that are of interest to him along with commentary. He doesn't hide his Libeterian bias but I consider that a feature rather than a bug. Since he links to other sites frequently he's also a good gateway to many other worthwhile blogs that I haven't mentioned.

2. Chicago Boys

http://chicagoboyz.net/

This is a group blog that involves mostly essays but some good stuff comes to the surface.

3. Tim Blair

http://timblair.net/

If you ever want to see the sillier reporters and activists mocked then this is the place to go.

4. Michelle Malkin

http://michellemalkin.com/

Accurate in her research but hated by all leftists everywhere for the "In your face!" attitude she takes towards her journalism. Read her yourself and see why they fuss. ^_~

5. Pajamas Media

http://pajamasmedia.com/

Alternative news service put together by a group of bloggers.

6. Belmont Club

http://fallbackbelmont.blogspot.com/

Interesting news analysis of relatively obscure news by Wretchard

7. Iraq the Model

http://iraqthemodel.blogspot.com/

A news blog by an Iraqi citizen.

8. Healing Iraq

http://healingiraq.blogspot.com/

Another one.

9. Grim's Hall

http://grimbeorn.blogspot.com/

One of the more interesting milblogs. Always worth reading

10. Baldilocks

http://baldilocks.typepad.com/

Another milblog worth reading.

11. Little Green Footballs.

http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/

One of the blogs that helped expose the CBS forgeries during Rathergate. Their disdain for jihadis sometimes extends to Islam in general.

12. Captain's Quarters

http://www.captainsquartersblog.com/mt/

He was the one who posted news about the Gomery Commission when there was a news blackout in Canada. He is a Republican in his bias but again I consider that a feature rather than a bug.

13. Liberterian Samizdata

http://samizdata.net/blog/

Another group blog put out by a group of British Liberterians. Often fun to read.

As said I might edit and put in more later. Hope this helps. ;)

Rants and Rayguns.

I consider myself well-informed and have occasionally been known to wax sarcastic but compared to this Secret Master I am not worthy. :D

Chaos Manor

http://www.jerrypournelle.com/index.html

Science and politics by an former engineer who has also been a political activist.

Big Lizards

http://biglizards.net/blog/

Lighthearted political discussion of news you won't always find in just any paper. :)
