I'm emailing you from 3500m up in Diqing, a town on the Tibet/China border (isn't the internet bloody great?).
Heading into Tibet tomorrow to go hiking and do some teaching.
Today I had to walk over the pass, cause the snow had blocked the road - van almost went over the edge, which was fun. Walked up to 4300m, which felt a bit woozy.
So far, I've tried dried yak meat, which is bloody delicious, yak cheese (runny, tastes like stilton) and yak butter. Yak is pretty big here.

I'm surprised the People's Republic lets you access this site.

Awesome. I'm on freaking NS and thinking about doing something, as soon as the toothpaste taste disappears.

Why not ? There are just some filters in place.

A. "China is a wonderful and culturally rich country"
B. "China is a human rights abuser"

On a Chinese computer, sentence B would a copy of sentence A.

No, I'm still surprised he can access this site, which almost certainly glorifies things which are illegal in China.

Don't get me wrong; I would love to be thousands of metres up in Tibet.

I just really don't like the way I've seen the eek-smilie used as of late.
I'm not really all that surprised. DH seems to be rather resourceful and street wise.

I use it because it's the same as the :O one in MSN messenger. I was intrigued, not shocked.

Diqing. I wonder if it's pronounced 'dicking'.

Yes. That's the first thing to come to my mind, I'm ashamed and proud to say. :)

Sounds like fun! While you're up there, you should maybe get some of that "free Tibet" everyone's been talking about. Though if they're giving it away it might not be that good, or there could be a catch or something.

Tried that ages ago, and believe me it's got nothing on Yak.

Naw it's not unfortunately. the 'q' sound is aspirated, so it's more like deeshing, than Dicking.
*sigh* Those damn Chinese - don't even have the decency to have placenames we can make fun of.
