caution pilgrimage ahead...

i bet y'all dont even have that road sign.

its good friday and the good catholics of socorro have spent some part of the day walking from the san miguel church in town to the san lorenzo church in polvadera, a distance of 12-15 miles, a good portion of it on the interstate. on ocassion a strong young man will carry a cross made of timbers the whole way.

the more religious yet might be making the pilgrimage to el santuario de chimayo. about 30,000 people do on any given good friday. they walk anywhere from 10 to 100 miles to get there. those with the greatest need walk for days in order to arrive on good friday. although one can make the pilgrimage any time, today is the most popular day for it.

so what interesting holy week/ easter traditions do y'all have?

i do not understand when lent ends.

its supposed to be 40 days but if you count 40 days from ash wednesday you arrive at palm sunday. palm sunday seems to me to be a great day to end lent, it being a big day of celebration but no one but me seems to think that.

some sites on the net suggested that you dont count the sundays (which still doesnt add up but its also BS because if the sundays dont count you could be having whatever you gave up on those sundays eh?) and then have lent end some time like holy thursday. pfffft

anyway, just a couple days of sacrifice left.
