caution pilgrimage ahead...
i bet y'all dont even have that road sign.
its good friday and the good catholics of socorro have spent some part of the day walking from the san miguel church in town to the san lorenzo church in polvadera, a distance of 12-15 miles, a good portion of it on the interstate. on ocassion a strong young man will carry a cross made of timbers the whole way.
the more religious yet might be making the pilgrimage to el santuario de chimayo. about 30,000 people do on any given good friday. they walk anywhere from 10 to 100 miles to get there. those with the greatest need walk for days in order to arrive on good friday. although one can make the pilgrimage any time, today is the most popular day for it.
so what interesting holy week/ easter traditions do y'all have?
