I've often wondered what happened to people I knew at primary school (I've managed to keep track of people I knew at secondary school), but I was rather shocked when this story appeared on the front page of the Herald Express (the paper for the county of Devon):

A 22-year-old man is facing a series of sex charges including bestiality with a dog. Steve Deacon, of Kingsteignton, appeared in court yesterday accused of a total of 10 sexual offences, one of which is bestiality.

Between January 1 2005 and March 5 2006, at Kingsteignton, he is alleged to have performed an act of penetration on a living animal, namely a dog.

He is also charged with, for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification, intentionally engaging in a sexual activity in the presence of a child under 16.
And he seemed so normal when he was 11. Scary.

Since I left primary school (10 years ago) 2 are already dead. One by a traffic accident and one committed suicide. I also wouldn't be surprised if some had some serious problems with the police. But this is also quite shocking news.

besides the fact that bestiality is odd, i don't think it should illegal. At least not as such... maybe aggravated assault of an animal. But there's plenty of instances when the animal is not hurt, like the thread a while back about the guy who died from his encounter with a horse.

Bestiality itself is a crime? Kooky. You'd think it would fall under animal cruelty or something, but I guess that's where moralism gets you.

Also, it seems to me he isn't much of a paedophile. He didn't molest the child, he exposed himself to it. He's a pervert, yes, but paedophile? Doesn't seem like it.

I've had two very disturbing experiences like this. A kid I knew who used to come over to my house and play with me and my brother when we were in grade school ended up killing both of his parents when he was in high school. This one's worse.

When I was in college I used to wait tables. There was this girl Michelle. In the news there was a story about a 10-year-old girl that went missing. Michelle lived in the same apartment building with her and babysat the girl pretty much since she was born. It took about three days before they found her body in a suitcase in another tenent's apartment. Michelle called in sick that day and I answered the phone. It was a really heart wrenching call. The guy who killed her was missing. A couple days later they found him walking down a street with his wrists cut. When they showed his picture on TV it was a guy who say two seats away from me in my Marine Biology lab class.

It's always the quiet ones, they say. If you know any quiet people you should kill them.

I read somewhere that 17 per cent of the population has had experience with bestiality, usually their pets. Don't know if that figure is accurate but I have know doubt it is more common than we think, pets never talk.

Back on topic it is pretty strange that there are still laws against beastiality. Putting it under cruelty to animals makes far more sense.

There were only 150 kids in my primary school. I was in a class with the guy in the article and about 25 other kids. Being in the same class year-after-year you do start to think you might really know them.
