Since we have a thread (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=477362) for the awful kiddy shows, how about the good ones? (Please post the bad ones to the other thread.)

I like the Sesame Street sketches with Cookie Monster.

Also, I love Fairly Odd Parents, and other such kid's shows that keep bringing in lines that kids won't get, but adults certainly will. ;)

Also, for some reason I quite enjoy "Madeline (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madeline)", a classic French cartoon.

Carebears. I have a bit of an obsession. I collect the stuffies, and have colouring books, regular books, a purse, stickers, cards... yeah.

Come on now, everybody! "It's the Carebear Countdown... 5, 4, 3, 2, 1!"

Okay, did anyone ever watch the musical? It was this episode where some guy with a guitar showed up in Care-a-Lot, and everyone just sat around singing. Beastly sang a wicked solo. :D Preeeeetty random.

I felt so sorry for that guy, though. He was so abused.

Edit: Way to finish my thought before posting, jeez.

All I really remember is that Beastly's laugh was very similar to Mad Cat's, from Inspector Gadget.

I actually like the Rug Rats..the older episodes not the newer ones.
And the old tv show, "Hey Dude!!!!" I wish the tv network Nick would put that back on the air..that show was awesome!
"Are you afraid of the dark," "Salute your shorts," "What would you do," "Double dare.."
Can you tell I grew up on Nick in the early 90's?
Haha!
I still watch, "Step by step," and "Boy meets world."

Some of my Faves:

old school
Sesame Street (the new ones suck)
the Electric Company
Mr. Rodger's Neighborhood
The original Muppet Show

newer
PB and J Otter
Stanley
Charlie and Lola
and an excellently funny one on Disney Channel Japan called "Planet English" - it's three Japanese "alien" kids doing a homestay in the US - and billed as "Uchujin no Eigo" (Alien's English).

A while ago I was looking through wikipedia articles on children's television shows I used to watch. This was before the "Nickelodeon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nickelodeon_%28TV_channel%29)" network became MTV Jr. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MTV) (damn you, Viacom (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viacom)). Ah, how one longs for the days when most of the best American television actually came from Canada, Spain, Japan, and Korea. :D

Adventures of the Little Koala (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adventures_of_the_Little_Koala)
Alvin and the Chipmunks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alvin_and_the_Chipmunks_%28TV_series%29)
Count Duckula (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Count_Duckula)
David the Gnome (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_the_Gnome)
Inspector Gadget (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inspector_Gadget)
Noozles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noozles)
The Ren and Stimpy Show (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ren_%26_Stimpy_Show)
Rocko's Modern Life (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocko%27s_Modern_Life)
3-2-1 Contact (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3-2-1_Contact)
Mr. Wizard's World (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Wizard%27s_World)
Today's Special (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Today%27s_Special)
You Can't Do That On Television (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/You_Can%27t_Do_That_on_Television)
The Elephant Show (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Elephant_Show)

And, of course, the classics:

Earthworm Jim

I used to enjoy watching Ant and Dec on SM:TV... I'm so embarrassed...

Danger Mouse absolutely rocks. Viewing it as an adult, there's so many more levels at which you can interpret it. I enjoy Tom and Jerry much more now that when I did when I was a kid - however, instead of watching children's TV when I was a child, I was listening to Bach, reading Gray's Anatomy or watching the news. So I've grown down a bit.

Thundercats, MASK, Transformers, Trap Door, Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles. They were the best from my childhood. What we've got now is a bunch of crap, with the exception of My Parent's Are Aliens, and Potatoes & Dragons.
Pure Metal
14-04-2006, 13:15
Defenders Of The Earth
Cities Of Gold
Thundercats
Inspector Gadget
Gummy Bears
Reboot
Ghostbusters cartoon

all classics of the late 80s/early 90's :)

nowadays i'd say Megas XLR and leave it at that :p

The funny thing is that I enjoy Road Runner vastly more now than when I was a kid. I seem to recall identifying with the bird when I was younger, but my sympathies now lie firmly with the coyote... keep on rolling that rock up that mountain.

A few of mine:

Thundercats(the king of 80's cartoons)
Dangermouse
Alvin and the chipmunks
Inspector Gadget
Transformers
Trapdoor
Rainbow
Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles
Rockos Modern Life
Saved by the Bell
Ducktales
Banana Man

.........*remembers childhood fondly*.....no worries back then.

Chip N' Dale: Rescue Rangers! That was class!

Kids' shows that I like:

Spongebob Squarepants

Fairly Odd Parents

Danny Phantom (Actually, Danny Phantom isn't that funny. I guess It's main appeal is cartoon action. I'm usually not a big fan of cartoons like that *Dragon Ball Z* but I guess this one has just enough comic relief to make it a pretty good cartoon. Or it's the fact that it airs in the middle of all those other great Nicktoons.)

My Life as a Teenage Robot (Not quite as popular as some of the others, but still a pretty good show. Interestingly this show, as well as both Fairly Odd Parents and Danny Phantom, was created by a guy named Butch Hartman. Man, is he a genius.

Rugrats (Not the stupid melodramatic tween soap opera they call "All Grown Up" Nickalodeon has effectively replaced the original Rugrats with that piece of crap.)

Sesame Street

Dora the Explorer

Veggie Tales
Zero Six Three

I love Pokemon! I'm sure there's more but I can't think of any right now.

Oh! And Rocko's Modern Life! That was the best...is it even still on? I don't think so. *sigh* And Adventures of Pete and Pete, that was great too. I hear it's big in Germany.

I almost forgot, Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends! The artwork on that is crazy.

since I am a parent I probably have different criteria than non-parents since I am looking for not only what's entertaining, but what's not a waste of time for my kids.

I really like Between the Lions (http://pbskids.org/lions/), it's educational, and very funny. We watch Veggie Tales (http://www.bigidea.com/), and Jakers! (http://pbskids.org/jakers/)

Pretty much that's all they watch that can be classified as "kid shows", well, except on Saturdays when they watch Spiderman with my husband, but I don't watch it because I am doing other things.

If you want stuff that's not a waste of time for your kids, you can't go wrong with 80s cartoons. They all had clear moral messages in them - Thundercats, Captain Planet, etc.

I don't think those still come on. (or I would be watching them endlessly)

when I was a kid...

He-Man
Thundercats
Captain Planet
Rescue Rangers
Darkwing Duck
Tiny Toons

man, I could go on for hours. I used to sit literally in front of the TV for 8 hours a day, it was pathetic. My kids get 1 hour a day...if they earn it.

extremely unlikely, but still possible. I always try to think of the worst case senario before I take any action and if I can't deal with that, I don't do said action.

I suppose it depends on risk v. reward, the reward of having Thundercats, isn't worth the risk of getting arrested, nor is it worth being a bad example for my children.

yeah, my girls think that portion of the show is stupid

"hey, my name is Billy and I just finished reading "Under My Bed" by <insert authors name> and illustrated by <some weird guy>, it's about a boy who thinks there is a monster under his bed, and a lot of fun stuff happens so I don't want to spoil the story, but in the end we see that there isn't a monster under his bed, it has good pictures, check it out"

btw, once we wrote down all the books, and couldn't find any of them at the local library anyway.

Looney toons, Tom and Jerry and of course the Pink Panther (cartoons), and not the new PC cartoons, the ones where the mouse beats the holy crap out of the cat and no words are spoken, other than the YAWEEEEEEEE!!!!! when the huge hammer falls on his tail, yet again, and Pink Panher is a smart arse mute who always gets the better of Clouseau. And, well, Looney Toons are supposed to talk, that's part of their charm!
