Most conservatives on global warming are now admitting that it's a threat or that humans are responsible for it's current state.

LOL is the Earth getting warmer? DUH! It's a natural process of the Earth to warm up, cool down, warm up, cool down, go into an Ice Age, go out of an Ice Age. Nothing that is happening today is new to the Earth. Have humans sped up the process? Certainly, that's a given. Am I going to go into the whole global warming bit and get rid of my car and walk around barefoot? No. The Earth will kill us before we kill it so why should I try to fight that. If my driving my car makes the Earth kill us faster then by all means, I'll drive a bit faster. (No I don't own an SUV).

Aye. An Independent might have been a better host, were it not for Gore literally being the face of the environment. Which is both sad and incredibly amusing.
I'll watch it. What convinced me to what it were those neato "this is what ____ will be like" shots. I love stuff like that. That alone is worth watching it for.

If you've listened to Gore's speeches on this issue over the last few years, you'd notice that Gore's mantra is that this is beyond politics, or at least it ought to be. It's hardly Gore's fault that some asshats can't get past the fact that he was VP and should have been President (and they know, deep down, that Gore won Florida) to take note of this important information. They'd rather see the world go to shit than admit that a Democrat is right on something. Reminds me of a quote from the writer Tim O'Brien: "Men killed and died because they were embarassed not to."

I wouldn't, but that's because I'd spend most of the time in the theater shuddering from his stupid goober laugh and wanting to punch him because he'd be talking to the screen like the audience is made up of 4th graders. (I suspect he does that in his speeches because that's how he was briefed on whatever subject he's talking about.)
Besides, it's not like Gore just picked up this issue two years ago. He's been on about the environment for decades now. I'll change my tune if he inserts an announcement that he's running for President in the dvd version, however.

I don't care whether global warming is happening or not, I'm still going to drive my car, still going to use air conditioning (Ralph Nader wanted to ban it), and I'm still going to use up electricity made from the burning of coal.
Plus, I don't think that global warming is people's fault. If you look at the history of our planet throughout it's entire life, you'll notice that we've only had ice-caps for roughly 2% of Earth's history; natural temperature fluctuations have frozen and melted them over and over since the dawn of time. To say that 200 years of human industrialization has managed to affect nature after 4 billion years of natural climate change is foolishness. We have just been in a particularly cold era in Earth's history, and now we're warming up again.

Michale Moore can go rot; it was horrid and worked purely at one's emotions to see the way he does that Bush is EVIL INCARNATE! Fortunately, I was for once immune to emotional pulling.
Thing is, what I just wrote up thar was the typical reaction of any Republican to that movie. The fact that this one is made by yet another Dem will make them think "Nah, not worth it: just more EVIL BUSH shit."

It amazes me how long that, "I invented the internet," BS meme has lasted. The man he might have defeated in 2000(?) repeatedly lies and violates civil liberties, and its a blip. Gore mentions that he introduced legislation funding research that helped create the internet, and his slightly poor wording is eternally distorted. Bush never used poor wording in his quest for the post of autocrat.

GORE: Well, I will be offering -- I'll be offering my vision when my campaign begins. And it will be comprehensive and sweeping. And I hope that it will be compelling enough to draw people toward it. I feel that it will be.
But it will emerge from my dialogue with the American people. I've traveled to every part of this country during the last six years. During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system.
During a quarter century of public service, including most of it long before I came into my current job, I have worked to try to improve the quality of life in our country and in our world. And what I've seen during that experience is an emerging future that's very exciting, about which I'm very optimistic, and toward which I want to lead.

Just called you on a false staement. No need to get defensive. Jeez.
From Wikipedia (the last statement is the important one and if you feel Wikipedia is not to be trusted, the quote can be found on a ton of sites with a simple google search):
In 1991, Gore sponsored the High Performance Computing Act of 1991 which advanced the growth and mainstreaming of the Internet during the 1990s [24]. In 1999, during an interview with Wolf Blitzer on CNN's "Late Edition" on March 9, 1999, Gore said:
During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system [25].
This statement has been the target of satire and criticism. Some of this criticism has been based on the interpretation that Gore was claiming to have invented or created the internet [26]. Internet pioneers Robert Kahn and Vinton Cerf defended Gore's statement:
...as the two people who designed the basic architecture and the core protocols that make the Internet work, we would like to acknowledge VP Gore's contributions as a Congressman, Senator and as Vice President. No other elected official, to our knowledge, has made a greater contribution over a longer period of time. [27]
But arguing about things like this is exactly what is taking us away from the issue of Climate Change.

Then you thought wrong. I don't play gotcha games. I point out bullshit wherever I see it. As to Gore's statement, the first person on this thread to mention it (Ravenshrike I believe) quoted Gore as saying "I invented the internet." Gore didn't say that. He said, as you noted, "I took the initiative," as in, took the lead, which is what he did in the US Congress, and as Desperate Measures showed, some noted computer scientists noted Gore's contributions. Did Gore word his statement inartfully? Probably. But he was accurate, and he didn't say what he's commonly accused of saying.
Still want to fuck with me?

Why, sure. You amuse me greatly. Particularly when you are seized with inarticulate rage. Like now. But I am done commenting on Al Gore on a Global Warming thread.
I'm sure we'll talk later, old friend.

You're probably catching some of the backlash from my essay grading--imagine what they're getting right now.
