Another general urges Rumsfeld to resign and active officers unhappy with Rumsfeld's performance...
WASHINGTON — A recent surge in public criticism of Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld by retired military leaders is the culmination of months of intense but largely private debate among active duty officers about how best to voice dissent over Bush administration policies, according to officers involved in the discussions.
A number of officers have been critical of Iraq policy — mostly anonymously — since the administration's early days. But the calls for Rumsfeld's resignation are an unusual step for members of the military, who are acutely sensitive to the appearance of challenging civilian leadership of the armed forces.

Maybe Bush could get Mcnamara to come on board for the next few years.

Ladies and Gentlemen, grab the popcorn and sit back. It won't be too long before Communal Property posts a response, something to the effect of "If they won't make themselves public they have no credibility whatsoever" since this article kills his "Retired Military have no credibility" apology for Dumbsfeld's incompetence and obstinance.

I bet you a cookie it'll be nearer to "These officers should do their job and concentrate on fighting the war", possibly linking the officers' criticism to low morale in the millitary.

From what I _can_ read, the author is taking the easy way out by refering to anonymous sources. Big Fucking Deal. Jason Blair and Dan Rather can make up stuff to beat the band and this guy can too.
When Tommy Franks criticizes Rumsfield, then you might have something to brag about. The retired officers are still fighting Desert Storm. Franks used his assets so well, that he didn't need the mass of force that the retired guys wanted to see. He embarassed them. Of course their jealous.

Nah, not really. They can't point to any officers that were directly involved in the invasion, who also think that it was a bad idea. The biggest fish, so far, is Zinni. And most regard him as a hack, despite his lofty rank.
