And this isn't really all that much more than a point defense system of sorts. I approve of it, though there will be ways around it eventually. All part of the one-upmanship that is a tech race.

how is that a 'force field' in any way? it shoots an explosive countermeasure, its not as if this technology is massively advanced. Its some creative use of radar and metal fragments. woo

there was a magnetic 'forcefield' that i read about some time ago which looked kinda similar to this... it tracked when a large metallic projectile came too close to the viehicle and deflected it. somehow. with magnets.

He may be referring to a magnetically contained cold plasma field. Which depending on the plasma density could be as hard as a wall or insubstantial. As an added bonus it scatters radar.

Targetting, tracking, and diffusing an RPG is NOT the same as having a force field. Someone needs to teach those Fox News writers something about science fiction...

Though if they did have a real forcefield that could be used on a personal level, they'd get a lot more recruits. People would join just to experience something they think is cool: see foriegn places, meet new people, and blow shit up.

The earlier thing you guys are thinking about is Electric Reactive Armor which uses two conductive plates to form a powerful capacitor; when the jet of molten metal penetrates and connects the two plates, the massive charge built up runs through the jet and causes it to vaporize. http://www.dstl.gov.uk/news_events/press/pr2002/01-07-02.php

So now instead of an explosive charge flying at you there is a large amount of 'harmless' shrapnel? Sounds like this sytem accomplishes much.:)
