Pesach!

Yes, that's right, Easter isn't the only big deal going on right now.

So what are you doing for Passover?

I had a quiet seder with my family last night, but tonight, all bets are off. I have half the neighborhood coming over for 2nd seder, Jews and non-Jews. It's a big shin-dig and I'm very excited.

Passover is bigger for us than Christmas is for Christians. Massive celebrations, food, drinking, celebration, and no commercialism.

So how's by ya'll? What ya doin'?

I'll be taking a carton of vla off the hands of a jewish friend, since she can't have it for Pesach and needs to get rid of it :)

Shmear it with charoset.

Soak it in water for 10 seconds, then cook it with scrambled eggs.

Matzah sucks. There's little you can do about it.

Well Easter is far more important for Christians then Christmas anyway on the religious level.

But, regardless, have fun! :D I'll be getting drunk. :D :D

I like it with Cheez Whiz on it, but that's not kosher.

Try drizzling honey on it, sprinkle some coconut and throw it under the broiler for two seconds.

honestly, you can't tell the difference between eating the matzah and eating the box it came in.I disagree (and I've had my share of matzah in my life). Tastes more like crackers. It isn't all that filling, but I like it as a snack (although that kind of relativates it's cultural importance).

Me, I'm smuggling various breads to a Jewish friend of mine. He's a staunch athiest, and though he's almost seventeen, his parents STILL force him to go through every holiday on the calander. Without me he'd be having a horrible time. As it is...he's somewhat irked. =/

Jewish is not a religion. I'm Jewish, my mother is Jewish, her whole family is Jewish. It's like saying I'm Irish.

I was Muslim for nearly 2 years. I've fallen out of love with it. However, becoming Muslim did not stop me from being Jewish any more than it stopped me from having blue eyes.

Yeah we parents suck in making our kids follow family tradition. :p

I've never had anything against family tradition. But there's tradition and then there's forcing you to go through a religious practice when you don't believe in that religion. It's because of THAT injustice that I'm helpin' him out.

there is a Temple here that does a chocolate seder for kids, we got invited to go Saturday, and since my kids are curious, and all the chocolate is gluten free, we might go.

If you're not Muslim anymore, Keruvalia, what religion are you? Are you just Jewish now?

By the way, I visited my aunt's house for a Seder last night; something I truly did not enjoy (getting endlessly questioned about my taking community college classes even though I'm in high school gets quite bothersome).

I lurve matzah! But if you find it less than satisfactory, try spreading butter or cream cheese on it, peanut butter and jelly, tomato sauce and melted cheese, or tuna with melted cheese on top. Yum!!

That's because we didn't hold on to our African culture.

We did hold on to our Jewishness.

Well it would be impossible for me ... dunno about, say, 300 generations from now. If there's not a finish line, it ain't a race. Jewish is a cultural identity, not a religion or race.

had a lovely little seder last night with our little Jewish community here at my school. I made the Charoses (my first time!) and broke my vegetarian diet for gefilte....and got very slightly pissed on Manischewitz, of course. Rounded off a lovely evening with some Fiddler on the Roof.

I must confess, though, we had a somewhat abreviated Seder (ceremonially speaking). Gimme a break...I'd been cooking all day, our host was observing the fast, and we were all STARVING!

Ironically, Tuesday evening I had a concert which saw the premier of my brass ensemble arrangement of...the Ave Maria, by Bruckner. Well-recieved, but not exactly kosher...

Big Seder on Saturday. w00p w00p
Aren't you a few days behind?

Anyway, I had a moderate size seder yesterday. We've modernized our Seders of late years, so instead of going through the Haggadah word for word we do the important/fun parts/great songs, and to do the rest of "magid" we decide on an issue beforehand that wil be discussed, and read biblical passages pretaining to it before shouting each other down with our opinions. It's really alot more interesting that the old recitation thing for the n'th time.

Tonight is the big one - about 20 people are going to be over. The ususal fun and drink will no doubt ensue.

@Keruvalia: I was searching Jolt yesterday looking for the instructions you gave me that time for good brisket. Due to Jolt's inherently sucky search function, I could not find it, and the brisket came out as dry as the sahara desert as per always. sigh. Oh well, I guess it wouldn't be pesach without it, and the rest of the food was great.

Manischevitz? oh god - I graduated from that stuff at grade seven school melaveh malka. Dude, get some real alchohol; there's more sugar in that stuff than in a a can of coke.

I'm actually going home this weekend. Friday night will be pesach, sunday will be easter, and saturday will be "I hate matzah" day (sorry, but I just can't resist a delicious lobster roll, and it is a tradition with me and my sister)

Anyway, right now, I am enjoying Matzah cereal. It's the Concord Grape matzah in milk with tons of sugar. It decent.

Then there is fried matzah a my bubbe called it. Take matzah, break it into pieces, run under hot water, mix with scrambled eggs, and cook. It's not bad.

Matzah pizza...cover in sauce and cheese

Matzah with jelly, matzah with peanut butter, and for those who are feeling feisty, matzah with peanut butter AND jelly!

I can't wait to go home and get some charoses...mmm....

I'm in the middle of exams actually. Yet, our seders wait for no one.

However, you're totally within the bounds, you can have a seder in october if you have to - there's a clause for it somewhere.

Last night we had a few friends over, and I led the Seder. We also got a few presents for finding the Afikomen - my brother and I got an Xbox 360 - a double surprise, as we haven't asked for one. We're going into town later to buy some games for it, including Halo 2.

And as my dad is Catholic, we just transfer all chametz into his possession. Despite the fact that tomorrow, we leave for a 6-day college tour (which reminds me, I need to finish my packing list...)

The issue isn't the quality of the wine. I have better stuff in my possession right now. It's just that it wouldn't be the same without the Manischewitz (and it's cheap and plentiful, of course...I'll save the good stuff for close friends!)

that...and I was expecting another of the guests to be bringing some real wine, but apparently some signals got crossed, so...what the hell, we had a great time!

We're doing a double whammy at Faire. The Guild Mistress is Jewish, so on Saturday we're having a Seder - Matzoh, charoset, the whole nine yards. I'm making lekach.

Sunday, we're having a traditional Easter meal for the Christians.

And the Pagans get to hide the eggs.
