What Makes You Happy?

Anti-Social Darwinism

I've been working for over 20 years at a job that has, just recently, begun to make me miserable (think of working in a minefield where the mines are always moving, you have huge fluorescent targets painted on you, bullets are flying and everyone around you is an enemy). I've been despairing of ever feeling a moment of contentment. Then, Sunday, I was sitting in spinners' circle at Faire, spinning (yarn, on a drop spindle) and talking to customers about Elizabethan England and Renaissance crafts and I realized I was happy. I was enjoying myself and the interaction with others. I was doing something I was good at and that had some value. The only downside is that I don't get paid for it. But I was happy for that moment.

What makes you happy?

Why don't you try a new job? I've heard that people in the US change their careers seven times on average.

this too makes me happy. im constantly told that having money doesnt solve all my problems. this is true, however, money will solve about 90% of my problems. so, i may not be 100% happy, but i will at elast be 90% happy...

How about crushing it with your teeth as the delicious, sweet donut juice seeps onto your tongue and as the dough makes you experience the closest thing to nirvana there is?

Bleh. More like sickeningly sweet goop oozing out of deep-fried, processed trash that people shovel into their eager, fat mouths.

"What Makes You Happy?"

Mostly just life, just being alive.

Some specific things: my grandchildren, my children, children in general; clear, beautiful days; a good beer; good food; stimulating conversation; being able to admire a beautiful woman; a hot fudge sundae; my Ragdoll cat, Skuttles; being able to pay my bills; almost being out of debt; etc.

It's possible to decide to be happy regardless of your circumstances. :)

Since when did doughnuts become a meat product? Now, if you're referring to veganism, that's different.

Having money does make you happy, for awhile. Then you need more to be happy. It's like a temporary fix ... it only works if you keep increasing the dosage.

Yeah, I thought you would say that. I find that people who are against manufactured food tend to be vegetarians.

Or how about a BEEFNUT!!!

Laziness.

"Vegetarianism is the practice of not eating meat, including beef, poultry, fish, or their by-products, with or without the use of dairy products or eggs. The exclusion may also extend to products derived from animal carcasses, such as lard, tallow, gelatin, rennet and cochineal. Some who follow the diet also choose to refrain from wearing clothing that involves the death of animals, such as leather, silk, fur and many or all down feathers. While most vegetarians consume dairy products; veganism is a stricter form, which excludes dairy, eggs, and any foods that contain these or other animal products; still stricter is fruitarianism, which excludes all food but the botanic fruits of plants." -Wikipedia

What makes me happy?

The few real friends I have at University, this forum, my family (if administered in reasonable doses ;))...

Of the Forumites, Eutrusca, Cabra West, and Whereyouthinkyougoing probably have done the most to make me happy recently. Thanks a lot :)

What makes me happy?

My wonderful and beautiful children (especially when they get along!)
The amazing Canadian, love of my life. (I feel deep happiness and total peace when he holds me in his arms at night)
Waking on a bright and clear sunny morning with the birds singing outside my window.
Being with my friends.
The house being clean and tidy!
A good meal with friends and family.
Too many things to mention now I come to think of it....

I actually feel happier just thinking about things that make me happy :D

Me? I have to make myself happy. Nobody else can, it would seem.
But I managed to get myself happy again now, and now I'm content sitting at home reading a good book, or meeting up with friends for an evening. Oh, and the slight thrill of having a blind date on Friday works quite nicely, too.

i don't know what makes me happy. my gf, travelling and seeing/doing new things, escapism, music, drugs, or booze all make me, or have made me at one point or another, happy.

edit: food!! cooking or eating... and laughter, either with people or TV shows or whatever. and sunshine :)

Good for you. What's the difference between the two?Quite roughly the difference is that vegetarians don't eat food that requires killing animals (meat), and vegans don't eat things that require exploiting animals (i.e milk products and eggs, as well as meat)

Bacon.

And, to a lesser degree: My daughter (who will soon be joined in making me happy by another, hopefully a boy), my basset hound Rufus, Marlboro Lights, Tool, Zing-Zang Bloody Mary Mix and Budweiser, good bourbon, my wife, my wife's boobies, mmm, Boxing, especially Diego Corrales and Ricky Hatton, Alpha Centauri, a big bag of herb, and finally, mushrooms. But only occasionally.

I've got more, but that'll do. Those make me the happiest, regardless.

Hey, same here, though I might substitute natural surroundings for a nice cityscape. Not always, but I would nevertheless.

Good food also helps.

I'm sorry but the nearest i get to happy, at least in the last couple of years, is simply not having my worries come true.I am a true worrywart. It is so bad that if i find myself not worrying about something, I worry. How bad is that?I feel like i am cursed, that if anything good happens to me i can't enjoy because i feel it will be snatched away.:(

Things that make me happy:
Cocktail dresses, pear nectar, Jimmy Choo heels, running/jogging, swimming at midnight, not having kids, spending time with friends and family, shopping with friends, travel, learning foreign languages, medicine (being a medical resident in general makes me happy :) ), being home (Poland), and curling up with someone you care about and watching a movie.
