Does Anyone Else Feel The Same Way?

Confession: I have an unhealthy fascination with romantic comedies and pop music. Now, I'm a straight guy and I like to think that I abhor anything that's mainstream, and I find romantic comedies to be retarded and pop music horrible, but I find myself coming back to it again and again. Take, for example, the movie Legally Blonde, which is just horribly cliched and full of drivel. If someone asked me what I thought of it, I would say that it's a complete waste of time, and then I would watch it myself when no one is looking. Or take the band Yellowcard. They're just another worthless emo outfit, but for some reason, I listen to them everyday.

My theory is that exposing myself to these things make myself feel superior to them....in a weird way. What do you think, and do you feel the same way?

Erm, no. I just think the whole genres are crap and usually don't even get to the end of the review.

Me too, but I still indulge in it for some inexplicable reason. Maybe I have a mental disorder?

If you really are addicted to pop music, then you'll love these:
Click (http://www7.nrk.no/nrkplayer/default.aspx?kategori_id=3344) these (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhMh17MK-SA&search=O-Zone) ! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3HvIZKacw0&search=September)
Those could actually be considered dance, but meh. If you don't like them, you have no problem, as self-diagnosis is unreliable.

My musical and entertainment preferences run a gamut of choices. I do indeed have songs from Yellowcard in my playlist, but I've got about 10 times as much Ozzy Osbourne and Rob Zombie. A fair amount of my music most people won't of heard of.

Can't say I've ever seen Legally blond, sounds really dumb so I never bothered. Not that dumb offends me, I like mindless on occasion. Take God Of War, that is a completely mindless violent game, I LOVE it. Terminator 4, bad story line, worse acting, love it. It's mindless entertainment. Plus the guy who plays Conner is pretty hot.

Gay male, don't pay attention to the stereotypes, if you enjoy something goofy, enjoy it. I just wouldn't brag about it. My guilty pleasure, I watch Cartoons. Just never grew out of them, not really dumb cartoons, mostly funny ones.

Ugh, romantic comedies and pop music are the basest kitsch modern capitalism has to offer (well, them and reality TV). I've left them for good and never looked back.

Same here. I don't consider it a guilty pleasure though. I've got the boxset of Tintin dvds, several Transformers dvds, all of Trap Door, most of Thundercats, and (I think) all of Popeye, including the early black and white ones.

Yeah but I watch Cartoon Network, Life and Times of Juniper Lee (it's funny), Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy (also hilarious). Also watch some anime, which I won't name because the english translation is horrifying and it's starting to get popular.

Revel in your guilty pleasures, before you realise few people will think less of you for doing so. Cos that's the best part of guilty pleaures, knowing it's wierd or wrong or etc

It's all about kitsch value, and seeing as kitsch rules, I really don't blame you.

Although, Legally Blonde? You sure you're straight?

For some reason, despite being old songs from her first album, I still find myself humming "Never Give It Up," (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctaDc_i8-bY&search=September)"We can do it" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2aRrKDPEHA&search=September) and "September all over."

Yes, I do the same thing. I've seen the movie Twister a billion times. I have Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys on my winamp. I watch WWE wrestling every Monday come hell or high water. Why? Why??

Yes, I agree. As much as I listen to non-commercial music and hate certain types of pop, "MMMBop" is still a good song.

Oh noes.Yep. I think one of the reasons I like it is because it's so unoriginal and people recognize it as being unoriginal, but other pop music that's obviously unoriginal is sometimes thought of as being original *coughMadonnacough*
