Berlusconi (leads) a coalition of his Forza Italia party, the former neo-fascist National Alliance, pro-Vatican forces and the anti-immigrant Northern League.

Berlusconi, a billionaire businessman whose empire includes TV networks, insurance and real estate, failed to jump start a flat economy during his tenure, but promised to abolish a homeowner's property tax.

That is kinda weird, I guess. Maybe they're pseudo-commies. But I'm not surprised to see the commies and greens on the same side.

For a start its a centre- left coalition, not a communist coalition and these days everyone promises to cut taxes, lets see what they actually do. If they do anything at all considering it doesn't look like they control both houses

Commies should be promising that taxes will be zero percent. Cause if they had communism taxes would be zero percent. That's because in true communism, there is no money :)

They are promising to cut payroll taxes, not to reduce the overall tax burden. What they give with one hand they will take back twice over with the other (corporation taxes, sales taxes, capital transfer taxes etc.) All the same I am glad to see the back of Burlesque-oni, the only thing he was good for recently was unintentional comedy.

It's more like 100% tax, really, but yes.

100% of nothing is the same as 0% of nothing. In fact, 1,000,000,000,000% of nothing is the same as 0% of nothing. So that's why they claim 0%, it's called manipulation. Learn it, love it. That's the leading political theory for getting votes ;)

Do you just not understand how communism works or something?

The state takes EVERYTHING and then gives it back to people in reasonable amounts. So it is more like 100% taxing.

Maybe the "Commies" are more flexible than what you are willing to admit,
or maybe there is different kinds of "commies"

Yep. Some of us believe we should ditch that nasty state thing as soon as possible, thanks.

Urmm when have I ever called them Commies?

China is not a true communist state, and there has never been one, I'm afraid. A true communist state would abolish money (as it's fairly useless for communism) and would barter-trade with other nations to get the resources it needed.

In true communism, the state takes everything and gives everyone exactly the same, from the lowest worker to the president themself.

That's the problem. Some of us don't believe in state coercion. Some of us don't believe in presidents. And so on. There's nothing inherently "un-communist" about lowering taxes. Particularly if it helps the worker.

(though in this case, it's a little weird.)

And nor is his coalition, really. I think that the title was fear-mongering rubbish myself.

ONOZ! COMMIES! GET OUT TEH BOMBZ!

Kanabia - Lowering taxes in a communist state? Eh?

So you let people keep every tenth toy they make in the factories or whatever?

Remember - in true communism, there would be no money, people would get things instead, and could barter-trade.

Remember - in true communism, there would be no money, people would get things instead, and could barter-trade.Not necessarily, there may not be a need for trade between individuals.

But at least you understand that communism hasn't existed yet - it's a bitch explaining that to people.

Yeah, exactly.

What I meant by barter-trading was between states.

But as you say, no true communist state has yet existed, and I doubt very much that it ever will.

That's not what I mean. I thought we were talking about a communist group coming to a coalition within a capitalist society. In that situation, communists pushing for taxes to be lowered for the workers is perfectly reasonable.

Remember - in true communism, there would be no money, people would get things instead, and could barter-trade.

You don't have to lecture *me* :p

Though Jello did point out a flaw in that.

Well, hey, so do I, but all too often, those parties have rhetoric about sticking up for the working classes, when they do exactly the opposite. It shits me.

Very true, but you should vote for the good ones. Although they are few, as with any other benevolent anythings. Bah.

Apparently these are communists that have some financial sense. They've learned the lessons that our Democrats fail to recognize about tax cuts and increased revenue.

So what you mean is that we have more communists in the US House and Senate than the Italians do in their government? I've always had a sneaking suspicion that was the case.

Will you believe I actually met a US congresscritter who was opposed to genociding all remaining red indians?
Congress is full of commielovers... and God only knows how many Indian Communists are arriving every day out of Mumbai...
