Someone needs to start selling Guy Fawkes masks.

Anyways, there are posters all over our buses here that ask us to report anything suspicious ("A bag without a person? It doesn't make sense!")

Yeah, it's real.

I've been telling people for years that tony blair and his cronies are corrupt fascists, but people laughed at me and pointed. "Look at the funny tory man" they'd say. In the long run, however, it seems I am being proved increasingly correct. Tony Blair and his administration have consistently erroded civil liberties, and will continue to do so as long as they are in power.

Nothing will be done about it though; for several reasons: Firstly, most europeans seem to have the idea that there is "too much free speech." They base this upon the fact that Hitler came to power, and therefore free speech must be curtailed. I blame this attitude on the complete failure of all historians and history teachers everywhere on the planet since the 1960s. (You know who you are 'fess up). Secondly - and this is often bandied about - you'll hear people say "well, labour gave us one thing the tories never did: economic stability!" Apart from the obvious fact that the same plaudit could be given to Mussolini, it seems that the vast majority of the UK populace (or at least the voting part) is concerned only with the value of residential property.

So all in all, the populace of the UK is quite happy to sit at home watching the BBC, under the rule of a psycopath and congenital liar who is under the impression that he was placed in number 10 to do the will of god.

And of course, like all good fascists, New Labour has no actual interest in maintaining civil order, or actually prosecuting actual criminals. Instead, they are quite prepared sub silento to foster an atmosphere that promotes petty theiving and assualt because it promotes a general unease and agitiation among the populace, and therefore gives them excuse to expand the unchecked powers of an already overly intrusive government even further. I can see the day when silly things like criminal trials, debate upon new "laws" in the house of commons (don't laugh the labour party is trying to eliminate as we speak) and judicial oversight are consigned to the ash heap of history.

The press of course, and I mean here specifically the manchester guardian, will go along with this however. Partly because the are the lap-dogs of the fascists in Westminster, but mostly because they are probably scared of losing the few privileges they have left.

And you can discount the BBC, they are nothing more than an organ of the government.

With the amount of crime that occurs on London public transport, and the unwillingness of people to come forward when these crimes do occur, I have no problem with there being CCTV on tha majority of buses, trains and tubes.

Anyway, I was addressing the larger point that the english are quite prepared to flush any civil liberties they may have down the toilet so long as their house prices go up.

One of the biggest problems with intel of any sort, particularly visual intel, is the daunting task of sorting through the sheer volume of it.

It's actually not a problem. CCTV is going to be hooked up to computers that can read license plates.

This will mean that citations can be issued automatically.

Of course, the chance of recieving police assistance if you are raped or robbed is virtually nil. But the government gets its coin, and that's what counts.

BTW, if someone breaks into your house over there, don't fight back. You may be prosecuted for assualt.

Anyway, I was addressing the larger point that the english are quite prepared to flush any civil liberties they may have down the toilet so long as their house prices go up.Yes they did, then promptly kicked Livingston out when he run for mayor as well as the official labour candidate... and then won as an independent. And then Blair was forced to allow Livingston back into the labour party. There's no way Blair would abolish one of his flagship pieces or regional governence. Livingston is also quite popular among Londoners. Thus he was relative autonomy from central government, as opposed to local government.

The GLA also has responsibilities for a few key areas, which among others are Transport and Policing. This poster falls under both these areas. It is Livingston's and Kiley's brainchild.

Not only does this fail to surprise me, this fails to worry me.

If I'm dumb enough to commit a crime in front of a camera, I deserve to be caught. If I'm foolish enough to commit a crime worthy of police attention (current trends indicate the minimum requirement to be ABH or more than £100 worth from a single theft) then I deserve to be caught.

If I'm foolish enough to believe in democracy, I deserve a police state.

Buy illegal cigarettes. Smoke illegal substances. Download music, films and software. Persuade your local barmaid to scam insurance for free drinks (She is such a sweetheart ;) ). Get stuff off the back of a lorry.

I will never advocate freedom over unity. But I'll take anarchy over democracy any day.

Bah, CCTV cameras are nothing compared to the ID cards that the government is trying to introduce. Why bother with CCTV when they'll be able to track movements by seeing when and where you last had to prove your indentity. Such as withdrawing cash from an ATM, making a purchase at a shop, entering Central London in a car, using London Transport's oyster system of payment, passing into greater london full stop by 2008. The National Identity Registry can be expanded to hold any infomation at the home secretary's discretion. The Home Office will be able to add and amend any data on your file without notifying you. Private firms will have access to your records and can tie their own records with your NIR number. The British public will be compeled to have an ID card by being required to get one if they attempt to get a passport, driver's licence or other form of ID. The ID card will quickly become pretty much the sole way to prove your identity. The Home Office will also have the power to suspend or revoke your ID card at anytime, meaning you will have essentially become non-person within the country.
