I can't sleep, this is the 19th night in a row that I have been up like this, and even when I do get to sleep I wake up every 30 minutes and then it takes 20 to 30 minutes to get back to sleep. :headbang: tomorrow I have too many things to do, and I need to have energy to do them

anyone got any quick get to sleep tips?

anyone else have sleep troubles?

(oh, and it's 11:30ish here)

Open your window. I find it much easier to fall asleep when it's cold.

It's half five here. Although I used to work this late, so this is no big deal.

Here are wikis tips. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insomnia#Alleviating_insomnia)

Perhaps you have some NyQuil or something that helps you sleep?

I can't fall asleep before 1:00.

But if I really do need to fall asleep, I just rub one off. Its lights out after that.

I don't know how much that helps you, though.

tried it, then tried to wake hubby up for the "real thing" apparently he isn't having trouble sleeping :(

it was a good idea though.

If it's been that long, I think you should go see a doctor about it.

For me, usually reading something very, very dull works. Warm milk and honey also helps.

yeah, I know. I don't have health insurance though so I try not to go unless it's something pressing (like when my gallbladder burst) although I did snap my toe yesterday and I have been pretty good at ignoring it, it didn't turn black or fall off so I think it's okay (after I popped it back into place of course)

I just read until the point where I start getting droopy and dose off. But first, I always make sure I am at a comfortable temperature etc. to sleep. It's so much easier to sleep when comfortable.

Honestly, I'd say this is pressing. I know when I was having lots of trouble, I was told the threshold is two weeks. If you haven't been able to sleep well for 14 days you need to see a doctor because there could be something very wrong.

there are alot of things that can cause it, from stress to diet changes and all that rot

I suggest Valerian root...its maybe $10 from CVS, works great, is non-addictive...

Haha. I fell asleep on my last girlfriend quite a few times, luckily I'm not heavy. I always heard that it isn't the same for girls and that they often get even more "awakened" afterwards unlike men. Thus the possible multiple thing. Although there are definate times that you can do a really good one and they don't even move for a bit. So I dunno what is the deal?

Yeah, I take an antihistamine and then go visit the NationStates forum until I start to get sleepy.

okay, i have been an insomnia sufferer for many many years.. over 10+ i'll not say anymore than that or you'll guess my age HA. BUT and this is NOT going to be an immediate relif but it will help in the long run.. and i DID think it was stupid and wouldn't work for me at first. that being said. you need to develop a Pavlovian Response to your bed. ie ONLY ever use your bed for either sex or sleep.. nothing else. don't read in bed, don't watch TV in bed etc.. i know its nice to do those things.. but you have to train your body and subconcious that when you lay in bed it meens sleep. this has cut about 45 minutes off my former hour and a half of time it took to fall asleep. if you have been laying in bed for a while trying to fall asleep to no avail.. get up and go do something to get tired again.. then go back and try it again. it sounds dumb, its not an immediate help.. but it does work.. and is reccomended by every doctor who treats sleeping problems out there.. you can look it up on the internet.

THAT being said.. another dumb suggestion but works for me, why not make up a story with you as the main character in it in your head. (ie the old getting told a story to fall asleep , like when you were little if your parents read to you?) i find that i fall asleep pretty quick. i have yet to hear an ending tho dammit.

See that last one you have to be careful about, me when I try making up stories like that I wind up keeping myself awake designing an entire fictional world from ecological system to layouts of major cities, personaly I blame RPing and excesive fiction reading.

Yeah, this is good. I do that too.

Whatever you do, don't sit there and ponder RL stuff. I reckon that's the worst thing you can do.

Oh hell, yeah I almost had a panic attack trying to go to sleep last night thinking about a research paper I need to get started on for next week.

Ugh, yeah. I do that too.

And then when I go without sleep for the night because of stressing about it, I hit myself in the morning because I probably could have gotten a big portion of it done in the time I was sitting there fretting.

:gundge: Insomnia.. fun.. yeah I can relate..

You can run your head repeatedly into your desk until you pass out from brain damage.. sure.. it has side effects, but none worse than what you get by zombieing out infront of the tube or the comp...

Meletonin works for me.
Also, this may sound weird...no, it WILL sound weird but fresh onions...
If you cut a large fresh onion and place it in a jar next to your bed. Get into bed tehn open the jar and take a deep breath. As strange as that sounds it works, at least for me... Even have a large dose of fresh onions (breath) in your salad or something will help.
