:( Now I'm gonna have to quit my job, dump my fiance and stop talking to my friends. I'll probably have to stop bathing, too.

I bought an X-Box 360. :(

I had to work Sunday at 6 AM. The last time I looked at the clock I had just finished the scene at the mansion in Ghost Recon and it was 4 AM.

How many stores did you try and rob only to discover that they had no 360's?

One. I just went to Target for some socks and I walked by the electronics department and my total expenditure went from $12.00 to about $$460.00

I know the feeling. I bought GT Legends on the weekend. I started playing on Sunday and when I looked at the clock in was 2AM Monday. I never start Silent Hunter III on a Sunday.

Personally I prefer the PC to any console - it can exceed it in every possible way except the selection of titles, and even that can be overcome by emulators.

Same here!

I like how the PS3 is going to have globalised hardware and software. You can play import games without having to modify the system.

And, I like how the Revolution is going to have the entirety of Nintendo's back catalogue available for download, and the controller looks especially interesting.

Not to mention that a mouse pwns a analogue stick any day when it comes to FPS.

While the mouse is currently the best controller for FPS games, I have an idea for something much better.

It would be similar to a steering wheel/pedals setup. On the right (or left) would be a stick to control your weapon, and on the left would be a stick to control the pitch and yaw of your head. On the floor would be pedals, one to move forwards, and one to move backwards. Hitting both at the same time would cause the character to jump.

This would also be very suitable for mech games.

That is changing with windows vista, because of the way vista works with dx10 games will have to be completly rewritten for pc or will be console only, or pc only. LIFE IS A BITCH!! :( Im still sticking with PC thought just because a high end pc with call of duty 2 can put the x-box 360 to shame!! to shame i say!!

No, they wouldn't have to be completely rewritten, only if you want to take full advantage of the new DirectX 10 features. Games programmed for DirectX 9 will work just fine. That's the point of programming for an API like DirectX.

I was lead to believe by M$ that, that was changing and that as DX10 will be vista only and the new cards supporting it in hardware mode that all games would be written for vista, and not xp, and conversions from consoles would be so difficult it would be easier to rewrite the whole game. Guess i was wrong.

I'm sure that as long as there is a good number of XP systems out there games will keep coming out that play in it. Maybe they won't look as good as in Vista, but I doubt developers will cut themselves out of a significant portion of the market.

But DX10 and DX9 are completly different DX10 built from ground up and will ship with vista, so it cant run DX9 compatible stuff, so one way or the other one system is going to be let down. But that being said halo 2 will be a vista only game.

As I understand it, and I could be wrong, DX10 has been programmed from the ground up, but includes the instruction set of DX9. That would give it backwards compatibility with DX9 even if they work different. That's the point of an API, that the programmers don't have to worry about what goes on behind the scenes.

Windows XP won't be able to run DirectX 10 games, so most games will require a dual mode. That'll make it more difficult for programmers to reach a wider audience. I suspect that what'll happen is that most games will be programmed for DirectX 9, except a few "killer-apps" that MS will use to try to make you buy Vista. Only after most XP systems have been replaced will DirectX only games start appear in great numbers.

That makes alot of sense actually, so then the push for M$ to have directx 10 on vista machines only is just a push to market halo2, as it is the only directx 10 game at the moment in production. Interesting. bah even though i have vista ultimate in beta i have to say i prefer the layout of xp.
