Yes, finally the Democrats have been assured of their return to power. Just minutes ago, Matthew Santos was elected to be the next President of these United States.* Indeed it is a day where democrats across the nation can rejoice. The Democratic National Convention had this to say to the GOP, "j00 B PWN3D SUXXOR!!! lololol st00p1d repubz r ze loserz!!!"**

*In the fictional world of The West Wing, which is soon to disappear due to a greedy network head who has decided to cancel the best show on television

That's ok. I expected the result. I found it'll be on tomorrow night on Bravo so I will make sure to see it then.

Santos unfortunately did not win a mandate....*sigh* I guess it doesn't really matter now...They should have done a massive landslide just for kicks, it would completely conflict with the plot line, but since the show is over it wouldn't really matter.

On the very slender chance the show continues, if they had a Republican win then they would have to let go all of the actors from Bartlett's Democratic White House. You can't let all those characters go! Santos would most likely keep everybody on.

But I understand this is going to be the West Wing's last season. :(

Not necessarily. Vinick wanted Josh to be his campaign manager, remember?

Yeah. That sucks.

This is the last season unfortunately. Apparently the network realized that this show might actually provoke like thoughts in the minds of their audience and couldn't allow it to continue  Instead we will probably find ourselves with *yet another* reality tv show :headbang:

Next Sunday is his funeral. Obviously they have run out of things to do for the remainder of the season.... I bet on the last episode they make that thing in [insert name of former Soviet republic which I couldn't spell if my life depended on it] go nuclear and the world ends, a nice parallel to the real world in which the television world will end with the West Wing.

The Daily Show and FNSU are the only reason I will watch television now... *sigh* can't the execs have just one good show? Even if it doesn't make that much money, the intelligence of the show alone should keep it on the air.

Good cartoons, Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park and plenty on Adult Swim.

With cancellations, I was annoyed enough when JAG and Third Watch ended, now yet another of my shows is ending. :(

I tend to be a centrist who would have re-elected Bartlett, but I've got to say that I believe Vinick was the stronger candidate. I mean, I realize one of the running themes of the show is that the underdog always wins, but I would have voted for Vinick, and I think the show would have ended better if Vinick had won and the staffers like Josh and Donna returned for the last few days of the Bartlett presidency.

The guy was a respectable Republican who was willing to stand up to the religious right, which is rare these days. I loved his speech early on about the press taking their moral concerns to their preachers where they belong. Similarly, I believe he was right on nuclear power all the way through and that his job creation policy was much better than Santos'.

Two consecutive Democratic governments? I imagine in the next episode they legalise gay marriage and solve world hunger.

Cartography program?

Yeah. It's called Campaign Cartographer. It's very detailed and flexible and extremely nerdly. I got an A in geography a few years ago and I don't think it's because I studied, it's because for some reason I think mountains are rather neat.

Alan Alda is not the kind of character who I thought made a convincing presidential candidate. He was twice as lethargic as Kerry and a third as likable. In the real world, Santos would have won in a landslide. His character has a great deal of sex appeal.

Alan Alda has already been a president though. You can't beat experience.

You mean the kind of experience that almost had us going to war with Canada? :D

On the other hand, now that Leia's Adopted Papi is in the White House, the Earth is going to be blown out of existence in the next ten years :P

It would have been more compelling even if the show was continuing if the Republican candidate had won. Not because I want a republican president-it's a made up world, narratively it would have just been better. They wouldn't have to change the 'everything's solved by a really good, timely speech' part, it would just be closer to the Grecko speech than they are now...

I disagree. Straight-talking Arnie had the exact same appeal as McCain's Straight-Talk Express, which I think is what the writers were going for.

They might as well just make it totally unrealistic now and ask Vinick to be Santos' VP.
