I wonder how large a lawsuit will come out of this.

It's not because of the subject matter -- it's just because of the subject matter. ;)

The guy's boss hasn't watched the film by the sounds of it. He says it's wrong to show inmates the film because of sexually explicit scenes. As far as I remember there was only one brief sexually explicit scene with all the rest being implicit.

On the topic of films... Tsotsi is a good independent film made in South Africa. *nods*

Another day, another pointless American court case.

Another day, another pointless American court case.

It's not a court case. It's disciplinary action. The only court case that might result is if the employee decides to sue over the discipline.

Judging by this one (http://www.splc.org/newsflash.asp?id=764&year=), I expect a BIG lawsuit.

Do you Brits have to deal with this kind of discrimination? Seriously! There's only one scene that's explicit. And it's considerably brief.

They just don't want their inmates to start playing gay cowboy with each other. Prison inmates are impressionable...:p

Actually, no. The secene you're talking about, the one between the two men in the tent, isn't explicit at all, in the sense that you don't see *anything*.

On the other hand, there is one explicit scene where you can see Anne Hathaway topless in the backseat of a car, plus two (IIRC) scenes where you can see Michelle Williams topless in bed with Heath Ledger.

Not that any of this should account for any kind of disciplinary action against the prison official, I just thought I'd point it out. :) (Not least because it annoyed me to no end that the movie's more crazy opponents went on about that so-called "explicit" scene that you could come away thinking you were about to see a gay porn flick.)

If they didn't want to watch it they should have refused and not watched it in the first place. Its a MOVIE, everyone knows what its about. Last I checked the inmates aren't cut off from the world and have access to the internet, books, magizines and other forms of communication (though it is monitored).

I seriously hope the case isn't won because the inmates decided to do anything they could to get back at the system that put them in there in the first place. Unless the prison offical tied them down and forced them to watch.:p

Huh, and considering that "explicit scene" is way MORE explicit than the picture you bashed on earlier, I'd say the defense of this movie on your part makes you a hypocrite and kind of a jerk.

Moving on.....

Out in Leavenworth, from what I've heard, some of the prisoners see much more "explicit" movies (not porn, just harder movies) as regular entertainment. Perhaps this is the one time that Massachusetts is being far more conservative than Kansas.
