Never had barbies, but I've mutilated most of my dolls pretty badly...I actually used burnt matched to draw really thick eyebrows onto some of them... ahh, good times.

I had Barbies, and of course I messed 'em up. But then, I also managed to ruin just about all the toys I had. In fact, I threw one of my Kens out into the lawn before my oldest sister mowed, just 'cause I knew he'd be ruined by the lawn mower. I wanted to see how he'd turn up. We also put a My Little Pony on the grill. I didn't turn out to be anything less than pretty normal.
The hair thing, I think every young girl does. I know for a fact that most of the time that I "removed hair" from a doll it was because I was trying to cut its hair. That's a regular thing for young girls to do when playing with dolls. Decapitation? Bitch, please, those heads would pop off while you're putting Barbie's glamourous hear in a damn ponytail.
I will not deny that many young girls torture their toys. In fact, my ex's little sister, who's four, imagined a scenario wherein she poisoned her Powerpuff Girls to incapacitate them, then she tied them face-down (or, as she put it, "execution style") under the chairs in their dining room. Why did she do all this? "Because they were bad". This is not a disturbed child in the least bit. This is not a violent individual from a bad home. This is a child who's taken the sort of influences she gets from her older siblings (and much of the rest of the world) and applied them into playtime.

It's Hollywood. They'd put a good ending in it even if they have to change history. It'd probably end up with Bush and Bin Laden having a sword fight, and Bush impaling Bin Ladin's body 100 times and cutting of his head.

You must not have heard of United 93, then. It's a movie set in one of the flights that crashed on 9/11, and trailers are already in theaters.

It is based around the fourth hijacked plane from the trailer I just saw. They don't deal with the WTC directly from what it seems.

Honestly, can you blame them? Think of other devastating times, such as World War II.... there are dozens of games and movies about it. Maybe it helps with healing, maybe its just fun. Sure 9/11 was a catastrophic wakeup call for America, but I'm not surprised at all by it.

Neither was I, but still, this is just cold. Think about people who knew victims from that flight going to see a movie and suddenly seeing that trailer pop up. I hope that the filmakers will at least donate some of the proceeds from it to charities for the families, or at least to some kind of charity. Five years after a tragedy is still too short a time for something like this.

Maybe. I didn't know anyone, but I can empathize with those that did. Maybe its too early. But its going to happen eventually. And you can probably give up on that hope; the film industry is about making money. Those high officials tend to be pretty greedy. Why else would they make a movie after only 5 years?

The still need people to watch the movie, and releasing something like this so soon could rub a lot of raw nerves and get a lot of negative press. Then the attendance drops and they've taken a loss. By donating to a charity some part of the profit, the producers could at least avoid looking like greedy bastards.

Alcoholic Barbie?? Iron Lung Barbie??
"A 4-year-old girl chose Barbie-sized tobacco in the pretend store and said: “I need this for my man. A man needs cigarettes.”
...
The study included 120 children, ages 2 to 6. An adult researcher led a standardized play activity in which each child, acting as a Barbie or Ken doll, shopped for a visiting friend. A store stocked with 133 miniature items gave the children choices—including meat, fruit, vegetables, snacks, nonalcoholic drinks, cigarettes, beer and wine."

Well, if it's encouraging children's creativity it should be supported: "The types of mutilation are varied and creative,"
On a more serious note, they seem to be vastly overeacting; they're almost implying that this is going to raise a generation of torturers and maniacs.

Actually, I know I should've pointed this out way earlier, but apparently the events in the movie were approved by surviving members of the passengers' families before they put everything into post production. Therefore, anybody who comes out afterwards and says "That's not fair, that's incredibly fictionalized, none of us were ever consulted before they put that in!" are going to be found to be complete liars, or complete morons. The sensitivity behind the issue is actually one of the reasons that they refrained from putting very many "big name" actors in the movie.
Just my two cents.
Children are pure. Children are evil. They will kill and destroy all they want and can for fun. Jet said it best though.:p

You know, I've always pushed for the "My Size Barbie" market to include a Barbie of so-called "average" proportions. Let's see if that makes any difference in the torture stats.
It likely won't, but I just personally can't wrap my mind around how the current Barbie is the idealised picture of a young woman....

I bring to you: VISIBLE BARBIE.
"We had no way of knowing (since, obviously, a standard autopsy could not be performed without causing irreparable damage to the subject) whether the doll had been marked down as a result of BSE (Barbie Simplygone Encephalopathy). Some researchers have hypothesized that BSE has already jumped the species barrier to computers and, thence, possibly, to computer programmers and hardware designers.
The most compelling evidence for BSE transmission from doll to computer to programmers/designers is the increasing frequency of incidents of empty-headed computer program designs and the peculiar fascination computer designers have had lately with developing colorful plastic colors and fashions with which to adorn new computer designs, rather than making products that work better or, in some cases, at all."
