Inspired by the "Whatcha sound like" thread ...

I'm sure some of you out there have a bit of musical talent. So let's hear it!

I sat down in the studio and recorded an old hymn just for jollies and will gladly share it with the group. I don't normally do hymns, so be kind. Vocals and guitar work is all me.

It's 8 megs, so prepare for the download time. *coff* If you're on dial-up, well, pretend it's awesome and then go get in the 21st century.

Just a Closer (Walk With Thee) (http://media.putfile.com/Just-a-Closer)

Dont Think Twice (http://media.putfile.com/Dont-Think-Twice) (Bob Dylan song)

Glass (http://media.putfile.com/Glass-81) (Original by me)

I sing terribly. Really bad. Not good at all. The only recordings I've made were so that they had something to torture Guantanamo Bay inmates with. They were destroyed after even Dick Cheney thought that was just too cruel.

Keruvalia- that was awesome that's like one of my favorite hymns and I get all pissy when someone screws it up, and you didn't, so :D, I like your version, it's mellow.

Since I still have Cinderella in my head... I will record me singing a song from that.

I woke up this morning with allergies and stuff, so I can't breathe properly, plus I probably don't sing all too well anymore since I don't practice daily, I had been practicing weekly but had to give that up for other obligations and so haven't really sang at all in like a month (not counting singing along to the radio in the car, which isn't technically singing in the sense that it's way offkey)

does anyone remember where people where going to record this stuff? My windows Sound Recorder will only record 60 seconds, which isn't long enough. (or does anyone know how to remedy that?)

The best thing anyone ever said about my singing was my brother's comment that "at least you have soul..."

The worst was simply "Give me the mike." at karaoke. (And that was a normally very polite Japanese woman.)

However my renditions of various Sex Pistols and Ramones songs has a special value all of it's own. (And may FSM have mercy on all your souls by preventing me from ever finding a place that has the Dead Kennedys on the menu... :))

I can't sing anymore. Sadly, when I was young and spermless, I sang in a choir. And I was damn good 2nd treble, too; we toured The US and Canada for a bit, did some stuff in France, Germany, Ireland...

Then my balls dropped. Now I can only manage about an octave range running from usually from an E two below middle C (although at the moment I just tested a quite C two below and it sounded fine, and I'm even lower in the mornings) to around an octave above that. Although, again, my voice varies so much that sometimes I can just about take it to middle C without cracking. Then there's the falsetto business, but I don't like that.

EDIT: Oh, forgot to mention. My singing voice disappeared along with my lack of body hair.

Well, you sound like a professional, that's for sure. And I'd actually *love* to save the songs - I just don't know how to save something from putfile :(. Anybody know how that works?Right click on the playing thingy in Putfile, pick Eigenschaften/Properties, copy the address, paste the address in your browser and click enter. You should get a download running. (It worked for me, so if you don't manage, I can still come by sometime and just bring them to you :p)

what's the good of highspeed internet if it's going to take me 25 minutes to upload a 2 minute song?!

I'm frustrated.Make sure you save it as an MP3 so it's not a massive .wav file. That would take forever to upload.

Right click on the playing thingy in Putfile, pick Eigenschaften/Properties, copy the address, paste the address in your browser and click enter. You should get a download running. (It worked for me, so if you don't manage, I can still come by sometime and just bring them to you :p)If you're using Firefox, just go to the Options menu>Page Info. On the tabs, it says "Media" and in the scroll box find the file that is a wav or mp3. Save it and you're done. :)

okay so apparently I am computer illiterate, and yeah, it's still in .wav form, my computer won't change it over to mp3 without a thingy that I don't have but tried to download, but when I did couldn't install because I am missing a .dll that I then googled but couldn't find. Hosted by rapidshare...some people can't access it...sorry:(

Please keep in mind that some of these recording are from 2000, and all are first-run-as-is recordings. So when I go a bit out of key...or make mistakes that non-Spanish speakers won't notice but nonetheless haunt me...FORGIVE ME!!! My voice is particularly timid and soft (and both too high or too low compared to how I now sing...what the hell?) in the 2000 recordings. This has reminded me that it's high time I re-recorded these songs, along with the ones I've learned since. I can honestly say my voice has gotten a lot stronger and more confident. But at some point I'll put my mp3s where my mouth is.

You don't know La vie en rose (http://www.paroles.net/chansons/23694.htm) by none other than the iconic Edith Piaf?

Anyway, the lyrics mean:

Eyes that make me lower mine
A laughter that loses itself on his lips (lit. mouth)
Here is the unaltered portrait
Of the man to whom I belong

When he takes me in his arms,
He talks to me in a low voice,
I see life in pink (i.e. "rose coloured glasses" or whatever the English idiom is)
He tells me words of love,
Words of everyday,
And that does something to me
He has entered my heart
A piece of happiness
To which I know the cause
It is he for me,
Me for him in life
He told me that, promised it
For life.
And as soon as I see him,
I feel in me
My heart that beats.

I'll post my singing. I've been training for a few years, but that's been negated by my recent consumption of dairy products.

First, my favourite warm-up song:
Rose Red (http://media.putfile.com/Rose-Red-Warm-up)

Next, and English folk tune I worked a few years ago. Not the best range, but fun to sing:

Spring Sorrow (http://media.putfile.com/Spring-Sorrow)

Next, my favourite French folk tune. Apologies for the stopping and starting; I have crappy sound recorder. And you might want to turn the volume down before the end. I'm still working the last note.

Aux Echos des Bois (http://media.putfile.com/Aux-Echos-des-Bois)

Finally, a very old and overused Italian arrietta. Be warned: there are some lovely weak spots (a couple parts are a bit too low for me, and there's a nice jump I sometimes struggle with) due to my lack of being warmed-up.

Se Tu M'ami (http://media.putfile.com/Se-Tu-Mami)

Sorry if I broke your eardrums. I screwed my voice up last week, and I've been a bit pitchy since.

Strange, it usually takes me at least three hours as well! :DSilly old man! We were talking about how long it takes us to gap the distances, and those times tend to be better when shorter ;)

They were big around the turn of the century. I think Pirate Bay may help you out, even if their albums should be pretty cheap to purchase by now.

I'm weary of sites like Pirate Bay, but I'll give it a try later tonight depending on how desperate I'm feeling. More likely than not, I'll end up buying the old-fashioned way. Stockholm is only a ferry away after all.

Darude was my introduction to the electionish scene, which was around 2000 or something.
I like, but I've always wondered if I'm supposed to stoned while watching videos such as these. :p

On a totally unrelated note, if you want to ruin the whole experience of hearing Eurovision Song Contest songs before seeing them in live Athens, click here (http://www7.nrk.no/nrkplayer/default.aspx?kategori_id=3344). A very spiffy link I've e-mailed to all the heathen masses ignorant of Eurovision's existence on the other side of the Atlantic. I originally set out looking for a link to see why everyone is saying Lordi is so insaine, weird, and cool as I missed the Finnish equivalent of Melodiefestavalen.

It may be closer, but due to the language barrier most Åländningar don't bother unless they are somekind of Finnophile. I think they are both 6+ hours away via ferry. Either way, its across the Baltic.

The majority also buy into the idea that the islands are demilitarised in and out of war. Anyhow, general concensus is better the Finns than the Russians, which leads to under 1/3 of Åländningar think that independence is the way to go these days.

Bravo! You have a great voice.

I splurged on buying The Prodigy: Experience (http://attrition.org/errata/www/vf1/experience.jpg) today. I thought, "Hey, that's like a 14 year-old CD, not to mention its cheaper than the food I bought for dinner." I'm wishing I hadn't, as their taste is an all too addictive audial smörgåsbord, like gooey coco balls with sprinkles on top, only laced with LSD. There must exist somesort of underlying correlation (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJNi0sl5BjU&search=In%20Extremo) that transcends modern genres (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1x1xIwcXWAI&search=Gotan%20Project).

I used to be a decent soprano in a choir, but then this puberty thing happened. Because the best musical teaching I had was as a soprano (“Vinny now is not the time”, not those Sopranos) it was hard for me to sing in a choir after that because I’d want to sing parts I no longer could. I have to force my voice a bit deeper just to keep from accidentally reaching where I can’t really get anymore. My voice is just too deep to be a soprano without an operation I have absolutely no intention on getting.

I was in the process of starting up a hard rock/metal garage band with some friends in high school, as the lead singer, but I really didn’t see much future in it and I thought it would interfere too much with school (looking back I should have gone for it). Now I mostly just sing the national anthem at hockey games and Remembrance Day ceremonies (unless I’m at home alone with the stereo on).
