DeLay campaign goes out with a bang.

By now, you've probably seen the many threads on the demise of House Majority Leader Tom DeLay's political career--and it can't die off soon enough to suit me. But his campaign decided to go out with a bang and protest a press conference by Nick Lampson, the Democrat who was challenging DeLay (before DeLay decided it was a better use of campaign funds to pay lawyers to defend his sorry ass).

Now you guys know I'm all about protest, no matter the cause. I think vocalizing your dissent is one of the most American things a citizen can do. But there's protest, and then there's assault and battery (http://www.brazosriver.com/april_6_nick_lampson_press_confe.htm). DeLay's boys were loud--to the point of drowning Lampson out--but that's okay. I think it's rude, but hey...this is Texas politics we're talking about here. But then it got physical (http://www.lampson.com/tools/av/files/0003.encoding1.mpg). That's a snippet of video of a DeLay supporter shoving a 70 year old woman, Marsha Rovai, in the face. What a tough guy, to shove grandma.

And by the way, DeLay's campaign was indeed behind this--the end of the video snippet above has a reporter saying "DeLay's campaign manager admits..." and then the video cuts out to a shot of a letter. Chances are it was this email, posted in several places online.
We would meet tomorrow morning at 9:45 am on the first floor of the parking garage attached to the Marriott. Please get folks to call our campaign office 281.343.1333 and let us know they can do it - or e-mail Leonard Cash (in the cc field above) so that we can get some head count. Let's give Lampson a parting shot that wrecks his press conference.
Real christian conduct there, guys. Yeah, Jesus was a bully who beat up 70 year old women. I hope Lampson wins by thirty points.

Delay and his supporters are crying little bitches. This has been verified by scientists.

hmmm would that be classified as wankerism or douchebaggery? Why not both--wanking douchebaggery? To me it reeks of pathetic bullies who feel like they have to act tough even though their hero has turned out to be nothing more than a scum-sucking piece of shit.

And that letter said absolutely nothing about attacking a woman. They were simply planning to be loud and boorish, and why shouldn't they be? DeLay isn't going to get elected as county dog catcher, let alone returned to the Senate, so why shouldn't he have a bit of fun before being walked to jail?

One supporter got a bit carried away, megh.

He's going to win, that's been decided. DeLay has all the political capital of Ralph Nader right now.

DeLay won't be as much of a factor now. I'd imagine the Republican nominee, whoever it winds up being, is going to ask DeLay to give him all the help he can--behind the scenes. It's still about a 55% Republican district, and if the nominee can get some distance from DeLay, Lampson may have a serious race on his hands.

I don't think there will be enough time to gain the requisite distance before November. Maybe the district will return to Republican hands in 2012, but DeLay has all but gift-wrapped the district for Lampson (and he probably knows it, hence the plan to go out with a bang).

When you feel your blood pressure rising at the site of granny taking one on the beezer, just think about Delay's face during his recent interview with Chris Matthews on MSNBC. I've never seen a man more pissed off in my life. All the while he was auto-spouting the Catalogue O' Rightwing Talking Points, his face and body language hinted pretty loud that the Republican party cut him loose because Abramoff is threatening to take him down and they don't want to go down with him -- and they did it against his will and without his consent. You should have seen him when Matthews played a clip of Bush saying about his "retirement", "I'm sure it was a very difficult decision for him to make," and then Matthews turns to Delay and say, "Wow, he didn't have anything nice to say about you at all." If there's anyone Delay hates today more than a liberal, it's those Republican turncoats that he made -- he made them, dammit, and he'll show them, even behind the scenes, he can still break them!!!

Heh-heh-heh-heh. Ah, the discomfort of my enemies...*contented sigh* :)

oh dont do that mura, thats like sending porn to a man serving a life sentence. i would soooo love to see delay implode and take all his former friends down with him.

he IS the reason why they are in big trouble. he came up with the "you can only contribute to republicans" rule that screwed up the normal corruption trail. without that, these illegal and unethical contributions would have gone to democrats as much as republicans (like they did with enron). now, the vast vast majority of abramof money went only to republicans. makes them look verrrry bad.

Yep, that's the problem Ashmoria--DeLay messed with the natural order of things, in hopes of establishing a permanent Republican majority, and it bit him in the ass.
