So as I read the opinions section of the paper, I come across a mans statement on illegal immigrants:

These illegal immigrants who want a free ride to this country should put a uniform on and serve in the military for two years in order to become a citizen.
I agree with what he said. If they want to live here they should do something for this country.

I think that should be a way for someone to become a citizen but not the only way.

the argument could be made that by providing, backbreaking cheap labor, that they are already doing something for the country by becoming basically slaves, prehaps not literally but close enough. Many do in fact join the military to gain citizenship, and many have recieved it after dying, in places like Iraq.

I was under the impression that you couldn't join the millitary without a green card.

As for the idea, no. There's no need for a massive millitary.

Do something for your country? By joining up to kill people in another country? What a great idea! In fact, since there are many people already killing people in other countries, why don't you put out a call for soldiers from around the world to come be US citizens!

Maybe there should be a quota to fulfill as well. 2 years in the service or 15 casualties, whichever comes first.

Maybe some extra points for killing 'suspected terrorists'.

To be honest, Im not sure about the green card thing, but I do know many are joining the military as a way to gain citizenship, I heard on the news a little while ago.

Serving in the military is good, but not in any high position I would hope for. Though there should be more ways for illegal immigrants to obtain citizenship, maybe reducing the test material and having a set of info.

Seriously they do not want to go to the hospital and could die if it was serious. People fear getting deported or being denied help if they are illegal immigrants. We should change that view for them by making it easier to become citizens and have help given to them under a 'no-questions asked' policy if they are on a life-or-death situation.
