What does one odd looking fish prove? Nobody was there to see whether or not it evolved into land animals. All you can say for sure is that it shares similarities with land animals. Humans share some similarity with birds, but that doesn't mean humans were once a flying species.

What "similarities" do humans share with birds? We have two legs, oh my god we are the same! That is not how things are compared on the evolutionary scale and I am damn sure you know that.

I think humans were a flying species and they used to fly regularly to the moon to harvest green cheese. Pffft, what do these scientists, know who have studied in depth this single subject for their entire adult lives?

Well, time to go. I've got some patients to expell evil spirits from. Where'd I put my leeches and my lucky chicken foot?

It doesn't matter how many arguments (quoteunquote) are smacked down.

"Intelligent Design" isn't born from argument or evidence. It's faith, so as long as people have faith in Biblical literalism, "ID" will always remain.

And if you invented a time machine and went back to confirm it, the IDers would still find something wrong. They'd say this was all just a test of Satan to tempt us into the evils of Godless Science.

Granted the similarities are few, but the similarities between the fish and land animals are few as well. They include only the bone structure in it's fins and the structure of it's rib cage, from what I've heard.

The fact is that a fossil with similarities to existing animals doesn't prove that one species transformed into another.

Well, it certainly proves that there was a transition as one species type evolved into another...

Which is why there is a speculation. I don't see you listing similarities between humans and birds still.

How does it do that? Wombats and groundhogs look kind of similar and occupy the same environmental niche, but nobody claims one evolved from the other. Since nobody was there to witness a fish turning into a land animal how can you say this isn't just a wombat/groundhog situation?

Both are bipedal and warm blooded. There you go. Two similarities for birds and people for two similarities between the fish fossil and land animals.

The odd-looking fish is the smoking gun against the major argument of creationists against Darwin's Theory of Evolution that there is no transitory species between sea and land dwelling creatures.

Well... one is a case of transformation, the other sounds like two similar co-existing species.

Humans don't lay eggs though.
Although, if they were smart, they would. It would place a huge deal less stress on the womans.

Nobody's given any proof that it's a transitional speices. It just looks like one.

Give me a break dude. It's not easy playing devil's advocate for creationism. Reality doesn't give me much to work with.

Human females do have eggs, but they don't develop into hard-shelled self-contained life support units the way they do for other species.

You are playing too much to the "we are smrt creationists." You gotta go for "God made them so they are all related and nothing evolves!"

um...excuse me. we are talking about INTELLIGENT DESIGN here, NOT creationism. They are...like...WAY different because Intelligent Design is like....almost a science thing. So like....yeah. PLZ RESPECT.

Oh wait...the topic says Creationism. And the thread says ID. Hah. I like that no one has raised "the difference" yet.

Bah. Today sucks.

In the eyes of legitimate science, there's no relevant difference.

In the eyes of 6th grade science, there still isnt a difference.

What's the monthly rent on living under a godless rock? And do godly rocks cost more? Does a view come with that, other than the bottom of a rock that is?

You can't rent space under godless rocks, that'd be like renting out a mansion. godly rocks are the exact same, but there is a shape that, if you squint one eye and poke yourself in the other with a piece of the True Cross, looks like Jesus might have looked if he was white and had a beard.

He may not have been white but he must have had a beard!

I like the fish, its cute. and makes creationism look just a little bit more stupid. Its obviously a transitional species, since nothing like that exists now. Creationists might well say it just became extinct rather than evolving, but if that is the case how come theres so many animals with obvious adaptations to their environment? The environment has changed a lot over the planets history, with ice ages and volcanoes etc, but theres still life. It didnt all get extinct. Because it adapted, it changed, it evolved.

Hmmm....whilst no creationists have popped up here, one has here: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=476316 - and he's trying to make a case against the fish and evolution in general. Perhaps a few people here could wander over and give GnI a hand? I would...but to be honest I don't have a clue about half of what they're talking about; history is my speciality.
