Zarqawi kicked out as leader?

That is the rumor. Due to his bloody tactics, it is rumored that Zarqawi was forced to give up his leadership role.

According to Huthayfah Azzam, the son of Abdullah Azzam, al-Zarqawi’s former mentor, the notorious commander of al-Qaeda in Iraq was stripped of his political duties at a meeting two weeks ago.

“The Iraqi resistance high command asked al-Zarqawi to give up his political role and replaced him with an Iraqi because of several mistakes,” said Mr Azzam in an interview with al-Arabiya, the Arabic news channel. “Al-Zarqawi’s role has been limited to military action,” he said.

The article did state that The claims could not be confirmed, but they did add to mounting evidence that al-Zarqawi has been increasingly isolated over the past months because of his ruthless tactics.

The paper goes on to describe that he hasn't been heard from in 3 months and it begins to list evidence that he probably has been replace.

If this is true, how will this affect the insurgency and more importantly, would it lead to the capture or death of this butcher?

I've heard that other resistance groups in Iraq who are homegrown want his head delivered to them on a plate.

Al-Qaeda in Iraq fight and believe along extreme Sunni Islamic lines of seeing Shias as unbelievers, due to a dispute that stretches back into history over who was the rightful successor to Mohammad.

Because the Shia as they became known, did not go along with the Sunni opinion of who was the successor, extreme sects of Sunni believe Shia can not be true muslims and are thus cannon fodder.

This has caused not only the Shias to retaliate, but also the Nationalist resistance and Islamic nationalist resistance movements to react with fury to Al-Qaeda in Iraq in it's indiscriminate killing and there have been multiple reports of home grown insurgents engaging in fierce and bloody gunbattles with Al-Qaeda in Iraq or as they call them, 'foreigners'.

Indeed, the homegrown insurgents reportedly celebrate whenevever the US military kills members of Al-Qaeda in Iraq, who have threatened the homegrown insurgents after many guarded the polling booths at the last election to encourage Sunnis to vote, having found from the last polling that the largely sunni boycott led to no Sunni representation in the interim government.

The nationalists believe in ending the occupation in Iraq and believe that Iraqis are Sunni, Shia, Christian or secular.

The Islamic Nationalists are Islamic, but believe not in a global 'jihad' struggle, but one in their country to reach the ends of ending the occupation.
One member said that Al-Qaeda in Iraq were murderers for their indiscriminate killings, rather than targetting occupation forces and colloborators of the occupation.

All in all, Zarqawi's days of influence (or rather, his groups) that reached a peak in 2004 and early 2005 has been on the decline, seemingly seeing Shias and Iraqi police even more of a target than the US-led forces, actions which have seen support wane.

More or less, all the insurgent groups that have no links to him, want him dead, seeing him as a problem.

Don't be too surprised if he ends up dead, either given away by the Iraqi insurgents and dealt with by US forces, the Iraqi insurgents, or the Iraqi security forces who have themselves been infiltratred by insurgents, or by Zarqawi's own colleagues for making Al-Qaeda in Iraq nigh on untenable.

If Al-Zarqawi has been kicked out of the Iraqi Terrorist Leadership then he's going to have a real hard time getting home. I bet that if the rumors are true bounty hunters all over Iraq will be looking for him. The Iraq\Jordan Boarder will have increased security. But they might think that he's to much of a Liability and just shoot him in the back of the head and dump his body in an ally. That way he can't be interrogated.

Or he'll be secretly handed over to the US and we won't announce it till we dragged out every answer we can out of him.

About the only thing he'd tell them is that the Insurgancy is funded by Syrian and Jordanian rich kids with to much time on their hands so they decided to join the Jihad.

So in other words not much. Each cell does'nt share information with the other because its to risky. I bet theirs a Very High Level Al-Quida leader in Iraq some one that they won't replace because he is to well connected Proberly a former member of the Afghan Mujahideen. (See Soviet/Afghan War)

"Dragged out" as in torture? I would imagine that he wouldn't tell his would be captors anything of use. If anything, he would send them on a wild goose chase or he would try to implicate people on his hit list?

CH, I do agree with you there or we could hand him over to Jordan and let them deal with him. They do not like him at the moment.

We really don't know what to believe about this man. We have heard so many false rumours about his death, his location, that he was pinned down, etc.

This really could just be more spin?

Possible but in this case, alot of the evidence is actually lining up. Some of that evidence is even listed in the times.

Am I the only one who finds the whole middle east Ironic, I mean Bin laden hates Saddam for the Iran and Kuwait War's, Saddam kills thousends of Kurds and shiites when they rebel with guns supplied by Iranian, Al-Quida and other Groups, 10 years later we remove Saddam and now Iraq is the place for Bin Ladens holy war (or Jihad)!
