Okay, I'm feeling pretty conflicted over this. Several people have expressed their distain for people who are popular on here because of their looks. Others don't seem to care and still others have asked everybody for pictures. Since we were talking about popularity today (or yesterday, whatever your time zone is) I was just wondering if I should show people on here what I look like or not. Keep it personality only, or give an idea of the whole person? It is a dilemma.

I'll put up a poll about it and then I will go to bed for the night. Depending on what you guys think (and who thinks what) I will either put up a link to what I look like or I'll keep myself blissfully cerebral on NS.

P.S. I think I am pretty good-looking, or I wouldn't even consider it. I don't know if this influences anybody.

You know, this is something that's really gotten to me since I put up my picture, so I'm glad you're giving it due consideration. I removed my photobucket from my signature because though some people chose to mention, from time to time, that they like the way I look (though I don't think it's all that important on an online forum), there were a TON of female posters, many of which seem to have disappeared in short order, who would find reasons to call me a slut or an attention whore simply because I had pictures of myself available. I did it originally so I could easily point to the link and say "No, seriously, I'm a girl, there's lots of pictures", rather than the attention I unintentionally gathered from it, but women....they're fucking vicious. Even me.

I'd say, if you really want to share it, go ahead and do so. Nothing should really hold you back from it. In fact, as soon as I get my newer rounds of photos uploaded, I'll probably add more to my NS Player Info string. But don't be totally surprised if some people hold it against you as "attention whoring".

As far as pics go, I suppose human nature gets the best of us with curiosity and all that. We are visual creatures and are stimulated by seeing people we interact with. However, there are members of NS whom I have never seen photos of and if I never saw a photo, I'd like/appreciate them just the same. For me, it's all about personality. If I get to match a face with a name, thats wonderful. It certainly wont change the way I interact with them or how I feel about them. Do what you are comfortable with :)

I'm not against it in the least. I think if you wanna do it, you should do it. To be perfectly honest, I, for one, don't care what anybody looks like around here. One of the good things is that I find out what people THINK like, and looks don't matter in the least.

I don't even form a picture in my mind about all of you. No need. I read your words and am either impressed or not, and react accordingly.

That being said, if you feel like posting a pic, if it makes you happy for folks to know what you look like, and if you feel comfortable with it, go right ahead! Unless, however, you specifically ask me to look at it for some reason I probably will go on as I have, not knowing what you look like, and not caring either.

I'll step forward foolishly for all the guys on here and say what most of them are thinking. "If you don't look at least cute, we probably won't comment anyway."

Thouhgh personally I'm more interested in the colour of your eyes. That's not even a line, I just like looking at eyes. And hands.

Well, to me it certainly isn't relevant to how I interact with the person on the forum (unless to make a comment on a particular picture posted). Like Btswavia, I respond to the writing of the person than anything else. This is a written medium, after all.

I guess I like pictures because I'm just curious, and it feels like I know people better if I know what their face looks like. It should be irrelevant on the internet, but given our normal depndancy on facial expression and concrete bodies to interact with, I think it's a legitimate curiosity.

sure, post a nice picture of yourself. what can it hurt? its not like anyone is going to figure out what town you live in and hunt you down (unless you live in a town the size of socorro, then it would be pretty easy to hunt you down)

make it a NICE picture but not a "glamor shot".

no looking up at the webcam perched on top of your monitor and smiling. your face will have a deathly blue hue and your nose will be the size of a toaster.

no going down to the mall and having some stranger put an inch of makeup on your face, dress you in someone elses clothing, stick you in front of a picture of downtown paris and take your picture

just a nice shot of what you might look like on an average good day.

I actually briefly considered just ditching the forums altogether because of them, really. I guess it's because of the way I was raised and the entire culture of my work and everything, but I am just completely unable to take negative comments in stride, especially when people are making insinuations like that based only off of my pictures. And unfortunately, one or two of them are still around, but I've long since tried to put that behind me. I've got too many people on here that I respect and enjoy speaking with to let some other chicks get to me.

I do it every morning...it's what I live for...going to the shops and getting overmade up airheads to slap gunk on my face in a random manner before jetting of to paris for a photo shoot is my usual morning pre NS activity

I think posting pictures of yourself sets a standard that not everyone wants to live up to. Like if ONLY absolutely gorgeous people put pictures up, then us plain people are going to resent the whole forum, because from what we see, it's only got "pretty" people in it. Or if someone posts a picture that's not gorgeous, then the non-pic people will be able to tear them to shreds while pretending they're much better looking.

The way I see it, either pictures should be mandatory - everyone has to post one, so no one's allowed to judge anyone else - or not at all, so no one's judged on looks anyway.

Not something I would do, but that's because I'm 13 and highly paranoid. I try not to post pictures and stuff since I automatically assume you're all serial killers/pedophiles/CIA agents/:sniper:/terrorists etcetera etcetera. Nothing personal, y'understand. I never did get that ... how women seem to be the the bigest users of sexual history as a weapon against eachother (or precieved sexuality)

I just find it intresting the differences ... Lol quite a few guys I know would LOVE to have a varied sexual history :) or at least precived as such

Do as you wish ... you are an honest debater and actually put your mind to arguments, ya really don't have to worry about what people will think. The only reason those others get picked on so much is cause they were pure “social” chatters in places like paradise beach and such ... their popularity was gained through what I personally would call spam. That did not help lol

Yeah, I was thinking about that too. People wondering why one person put up a picture and not another person...so if you didn't, would you be considered ugly or more attractive than you actually are? And what would it say about your personality? Secretive, or "above all that looks stuff"?

They say that if you don't know what a person really looks or acts like in real life, you tend to endow them with the qualities you want them to have. So everybody is hotter, wittier, more compassionate online than in real life...or more ugly, cruel, and stupid than in real life if you've decided you don't like them. Funny how that works.

Yeah, that is freaky. You never know what people are doing with your picture. well id say putting up a picture is a good thing. i like to see the face of someone i'm talking to - it makes conversations just that little bit more personal and therefore easier, even if it is just an inanimate still of them. when i can't see someone's face i feel uncomfortable talking to them but i think thats just me - i don't like using the phone for the same reason and everyone thinks i'm weird *shrugs*.
