Cripes, if they could do that, they would have by now. I think it's time to give some more powers to the UN.

You should have told that to Milosevic and The Hague.

The UN Didn't arrest Milosevic. He was turned over to them by his own people

And who is going to enforce it?
international law?
mutual consent and subscription?
people not being cowboy opportunistic 'realists'?

supranational or intergovernmental anythings can only work by subscription - unless everyone 'plays by the rules'. people like Bush (and many, many others of course) who break those rules undermine the authority of any such structure and basically spoil it for everyone else (and Bush of all people should know better!). damn realists *shakes fist*

Let me guess, you do not understand the concept of the international arrest warrants issued by the court, nor its continued arrest and detainment of him?

Nations are sovereign and only they have the power to arrest their own citizens.

no such thing anymore. not in the traditional sense of sovereignity at least... semi-sovereignity maybe...

Nope. Why do you think those foreign troops in Bosnia are looking so hard for Karadzic and Mladic, even when the Serbs weren't cooperating? Because they have the authority given to them by the court to arrest them. And it's not just the Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, the ICC issues warrants as well which authorise any UN nation, and UN troops, to arrest the persons sought. Why do you think it's called "international arrest warrant?" And why all those Nazis were hunted after WWII?

It seems to be the general consensus that the UN should have some more 'arse-kicking' powers. Man, just imagine a coalition of the elite black ops forces storming the whitehouse! Hahaha.:D Clearly, you wouldn't actually do it there...but still. Can't you see him sitting in a cell, no belt, no shoelaces, growing a beard. Thats it! The UN needs the power to do shit like this. Arseholes like bush need to be made accountable.

Can anyone think of any problems with the UN having those kind of powers, providing it was run democratically (Think of it as a nation of nations, wherein each country is a citizen, and is subject to the Law)?
